Questions, Questions, Questions. Tell Me About You!

During my blog overhaul I started to think about my layout. I have been lucky enough to have received lots of different awards from various people and I proudly display them down the side of my posts. It occurred to me that they all have one major thing in common: questions. The amount of questions asked can vary from five to fifteen, depending on the award and are set by the person that has nominated others.

I find that blogging can a very narcissistic venture. A blog allows the freedom to discuss what is personal to you – likes, dislikes, hopes, fears and thoughts seem to be the main focus for a large amount of (fabulous, I might add) posts that I read, and provides the opportunity for expression and creativity. I have many lovely conversations every single day, but it occurred to me that I know very little about some of you guys.

I thought that I’d try a little experiment. It may get no response at all, which is fine, but I’m going to give it a go anyway.

I want to know about you. I have written seven questions that I’d love you to answer. This can be done in two ways:

1. Answer them in the comment box below.

2. Create your own post with your answers, and link back to this post so that I can read them.

I’m going to leave it open all week, with the idea is that I want to be able to collate the answers into a different post that gives an overview of the WordPress blogging community that I now feel like I am a small part of. I will also reblog the most creative ones.

1. Why have you chosen your blog name?

2. When you have an hour of free-time, what do you do?

3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be?

4. If you could learn to do something, what would it be?

5. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?

6. What is the thing that makes you absolutely unique?

7. What is your favourite blog?

I hope this works! Looking forward to seeing your responses!!

Happy Blogging!!

  1. Good job it’s you asking this Suzie as I hate talking about myself but here you go.
1: I chose my blog name in the hope it will help in me being recognised with my novel writing at some point.
2: I make free time so I don’t go mad and run or just get outside.
    3: About thirty would do.
    4: I’ve done all I want to.
5: Money doesn’t do it for me. I’d be as happy buying a book as a car.
6: Like everyone, the thing that makes me unique is being me.
7: My favourite blog to view is In My Metaphorical Room by RV. I’m very jealous as it’s beautiful.

  2. Great idea!
    1) I wanted a title that gave the tone of what goes on in life and on my blog – both meandering and multifaceted.
    2) Pinch myself then jump up and down on the spot with glee. Then I play with my daughter’s playmobils, blog or go out for a walk with Smelly Dog and Candide the Camera.
    3) Ten. Definitely.
    4) I’d love to learn to be organised and disciplined. Don’t hold your breath.
    5) I’d pay off my mortgage.
    6) Good question.
7)I have lots of favourite blogs – they’re all listed on my blog, including yours.

  3. Hi Suzie, maybe one day I might post these answers I give on my blog, but the posts are already scheduled weeks in advance. So I’ll answer this way. Obviously I have to remain in character, but for the purposes of your activity I will also be honest.
    1. Why have you chosen your blog name?
All Hail the Monkey King? Well, I thought it summed up the theme, topic and tone of my blog in the best possible way. It fringes on the ridiculous, and tells you that you should expect to read about the wacky adventures of the lord of monkeys.
    2. When you have an hour of free-time, what do you do?
Only an hour of free time? Probably play Xbox. If it was longer than an hour, then it would be watching a TV series. The monkeys and I are stuck into Breaking Bad at the moment.
    3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be?
I always believed that if I died and went to heaven, I’d appear as if I was 12-years-old. That was a good time for me. I never grew up with a high self esteem, and it was at that age where I really began to believe that maybe I was good looking. My fashion was jeans, floral design shirts, and I had dyed blond hair. I’d also just discovered the merits of hair gel. I was a cute little kid.
    4. If you could learn to do something, what would it be?
Something entirely new? I’d like to learn to sing.
    5. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
The monkeys and I are saving up to build a fancy hotel near the monkey forest. With a bar, golden monkey statues, banana lounges, those fancy umbrellas, smart waitresses and waiters who wear monocles and top hats. Obviously with the lottery we could add in golden chandeliers, secret passageways, and slides coming down from the penthouse.
    6. What is the thing that makes you absolutely unique?
    My imagination.
    7. What is your favourite blog?
Ooh, tough question. I don’t think there’s one perfect blog, in my opinion. There are many that have promising content, visuals, etc. There is one I can’t remember the name of, where she sums up how crazy she is in each post, but her posts aren’t consistent enough for my liking. I think when I do pick my favourite blog, it will be creative, unique, and daring, and create its own rules that will influence what it means to have a successful blog.
    How’s that?

  4. I’m enjoying reading the couple of responses so far.
    1. I chose my name in a moment and i think it sums up my blog perfectly.
2.I think if I were honest I would say I’d blog. I would like to say other things but that would be a lie!
3.My current age mid forties is good. I still have a young child but also teens and college goers so I can hang on to mothering a while longer but have built in babysitters too.
4.If money were no option I’d like to study psychology.
    5.Take the family to DisneyLand.
    6. My past.
    7. Different days I like different blogs. For humour I like madhatters, for interesting read I like MM who commented ahead of me here, or The Chatter Blog, The Crankycaregiver, Life everyone has one and quite a number of others.

  5. 1. Why have you chosen your blog name?
Pray, Eat, Create. These three words are simple, yet some of my favorites. When I started my blog I planned for a lot of my posts to be inspirational and spiritual (pray), I also intended to include recipes and DIY projects (eat and create). I have been pretty consistent with the first part, but as for eat and create? Heck, I don’t have time to do that stuff to begin with at this point in my life. Let alone blog about it. Haha. 🙂 I don’t feel like I’ve done my blog an injustice at all, although my name could be taken in a misleading way I consider it very “me” which is what really matters.

    2. When you have an hour of free-time, what do you do?
Sit on my back porch, read, blog or catch up on my DVR recordings. 🙂

    3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be?
Hmm… tough question. I wanted to say 17 at first, then I remembered that would mean being stuck in high school forever. Yikes! I’m going to have to go with 23, grown up but still pretty young.

    4. If you could learn to do something, what would it be?
Play guitar. I have one, but it’s not really of any use until I learn to play it… Lol.

    5. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
A new car, my recently kicked the bucket. 😦
Then I would buy a commercial espresso machine.

    6. What is the thing that makes you absolutely unique?
I think my writing ability is rather unique. I’m working on my first book now!

    7. What is your favourite blog?
The Matt Walsh Blog, the guy is hilarious and brilliant.

This was fun and made me think! Thanks for posting!

  6. How fun! I saw this in Rara’s Facebook feed and I’ll play along! 🙂 I have two other posts lined up, but after these, I’ll answer your questions and will link back to you! Have a fabulous day!

  8. This sounds fun Suzie! Here are my answers:

    1. Why have you chosen your blog name?
Because Vanilla sounds boring. It is, OR NOT.

    2. When you have an hour of free-time, what do you do?
    Read blogs or a book!

    3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be?
18, because I was stupid and didn’t know any better. Shielded from the pains of the world.

    4. If you could learn to do something, what would it be?
Play the piano. I had piano lessons when I was a kid but I was too stubborn to continue with it. Now I regret it. I would love to be able to play some of my favorite songs to my kids.

    5. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
A house because we are still renting until now.

    6. What is the thing that makes you absolutely unique?
    I have no idea. 🙂

    7. What is your favourite blog?
Couldn’t narrow it down to one.

  10. Aight, I’m fairly new to your blog, but here goes:

    1. Why have you chosen your blog name?
“Artistical Intelligence” means ‘what art means to me’; to use whatever is considered artistical with a certain degree of ‘using one’s mind in order to come up with ideas for all kinds of illustrations’. And that’s a fairly complicated way of saying something what just means ‘drawing smart’ ^^

    2. When you have an hour of free-time, what do you do?
Mostly, reading. Lots and lots and lots of reading. Knowledge is freedom.

    3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be?
Aw man, without hesitation, I’d love to be 8 year old forever. That’s a no-brainer.

    4. If you could learn to do something, what would it be?
I’d love to expand upon my artistical knowledge. So definitely more graffiti or airbrush or something paint-related. I miss that in my life. That and breakdancing. Don’t ask me why 😉

    5. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
A way to explore the artistical world around me. A trip to Pixar. Another trip to CTN. Another one to George Lucas’ ranch? Good god, so many artistical places to see.

    6. What is the thing that makes you absolutely unique?
I believe the fingerprints on my fingers are to be considered unique, right? Heh, fairly good question, you know. One that I have to think about for a while. I’d say, my personal projects are to be considered fairly unique, as I haven’t seen anything that comes close to it.

    7. What is your favourite blog?
Jake Parker’s blog. No, Imaginism’s blog, or maybe Chris Sanders’ .. Or …

  11. 1 – combination of whimsy and impermanence
    2 – read or paint
    3 – 39
    4 – speak mandarin
    5 – give to charities
    6 – humour and heart
7 – too many to choose, but yours is one

  12. 1. I chose “The Musical Poet” as my blog name because through my writings of poems and stories, I have found it has greatly enhanced my ability to write lyrics to the songs I’ve been writing… I’m a much stronger songwriter these days (after 28 years of writing music) because of my blog.

    2. If I had a free hour of free time, I would brew a fresh pot of coffee, grab some paper and a pen and sit at my piano and just play and write. Such therapy for me to just sit and play. To me it’s like another dimension. I love it.

    3. If I could choose a certain age to stay forever? I’d pick my current age… 45. Life really seemed to start for me this year. Those that know me know the challenge this past year has been for me, but it has defined WHO I will be for the NEXT 45 years of my life. I’m happier than I have ever been, and I have love in my life for what feels like the first time. I’m a lucky man on MANY MANY levels.

    4. If I could learn to do something, I’d had to say I’d like to use my hands for more than just playing music. I’m a creative soul at heart, so I’d like to try my hand (pun intended) at wood-working. I joke with my siblings that in high school, I decided to pick up a guitar, instead of a hammer. Now I want to pick up the hammer.

    5. If I won the lottery, the first thing I would buy would be a Harley! It would really piss off my soon-to -be-ex-wife. 🙂

    6. The one thing that makes me absolutely unique? Well, I am one of 13 children and I’m the ONLY musician in the brood. None of my 12 siblings plays an instrument or writes music. We each have our own ‘niche’ and music is ALL MINE. 🙂

    7. My favorite blog? Tough call. I have so many that I follow… This is really too difficult for me to answer… I have a blogroll list on my blog of the blogs I follow. Check them out. They are all wonderful writers. 🙂

  14. This is such a fun idea.
1-Mr. Sugarbears is what I call my dog when he’s being good. It started as my Instagram name and now my blog name. mrsugarbears.com
2-Free time-either reading by the fire or sitting outside on the porch if the weather allows.
3-35-it was before the wrinkles started happening and the aches started kicking in, but I also felt like I knew who I was at that age.
4-To play guitar-I’ve always chickened out after a few lessons because of the pain in my fingers. I’d like to tough it out.
5-An attorney. 🙂 and then a plane ticket.
6-It’s hard for me to stop smiling and laughing. Is that unique?
7-andrawatkins.com Her writing challenges me to push myself to be a better writer and she’s funny.

  17. OMG I really have to think?
    1. I chose my blog name quickly because my friend, who was helping me, technologically challenged, to set it up, asked for the name, and that was what I blurted out.
    2. An hour of free time I would spend in my garden reading.
    3. I have had so many ages and hope to have more, but, if pressed, it would be 18 when I was in love .
    4. Learn my way around the computer so I could do anything I wanted with it.
    5. I never play the Lottery, so my chances are nil. However, if I were gifted with a huge amount of money, I’d first pay off my friend’s mortgage.
6.What makes me unique? I’m like everyone else, but my soul is my own.
    7. My taste is eclectic. i have no favorite. I enjoy them all.

  18. Sounds like a fun and new sort of idea, so here are my answers and best of luck with all the blogging 😀

    1. Why have you chosen your blog name?
”FysioTim”, i’t my occupation in The Netherlands written along with my name, nothing fancy and very recognisable for all readers (it’s a blog written in dutch)

    2. When you have an hour of free-time, what do you do?
Play the guitar, read a book but mostly playing with my pet bunny that stays with me

    3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be?
21, just about that time you are becoming an adult (or trying too). It’s a great time for trial and error and mostly exploring yourself as a person i think. (now i am 24 but still getting to know me better one day at a time 😉 )

    4. If you could learn to do something, what would it be?
Sing, now i do sing a bit along with my guitar but i don’t really have a singing voice and it’s probably scaring away the neighbours.

    5. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
    A house for my sister

    6. What is the thing that makes you absolutely unique?
i don’t really have an inner monologue, i always say (or write as in this comment) the thing i am thinking about. You could see it as talking without ”a filter”. My thoughts just go straight out by voice or by keyboard when i’m writing about stuff

    7. What is your favourite blog?
difficult question ’cause i have not been on wordpress for a long time now. But i like the blogs with nice photos or funny stories. Depends on my mood i guess, sometimes poetry blogs are nice to read as well.

Hope you can do something with everyone’s answers here, looks like it’s getting lots of response. I’ll keep on following this blog. Greetings from the Netherlands

  22. This sounds like a lot of fun and a great way for your readers to get to know one another’s blogs. Thanks!

    1. Why have you chosen your blog name?
I wanted to start a blog for a while as an outlet for my writing. I already had created a secret Facebook identity for myself with the last name of “Washere,” so I thought I could do the same with my blog. Caseywasthere came from that concept- a little anonymity and a splash of sass.

    2. When you have an hour of free-time, what do you do?
I rarely have an hour of free time, but when I do it’s usually set aside to watch a television show. Tonight’s pick is American Horror Story: Coven. I have been bewitched.

    3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be?
If I had to choose an age I have already been- definitely 21. I get so much more material to write about just by being able to legally consume alcohol: the bar dramas, the drink reviews, and even recipes. Hello, tequila chicken pasta.

    4. If you could learn to do something, what would it be?
I would love to be able to play the guitar. I could finally put my whimsical song writing to music. I know my refrigerator cleansing tune, Throwing It All Away, would be a hit. I just know it.

    5. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
My freedom… from student loans. Always my first dream when thinking of winning the lotto. My dream, I realize, are often realistic yet big. Second choice: a better crock pot.

    6. What is the thing that makes you absolutely unique?
My drive. I’m not a beggar or “brown-noser” and I only expect to get ahead in my life through my own merit. I feel entitled to nothing and I’m gunning for everything.

    7. What is your favourite blog?
I love HighTalk by George F. Snell III. I read it whenever I can because he has a very insightful voice about the media and PR world. George is very direct and has a “no funny business” way about his writing. I find it refreshing and I can’t get enough.

  25. 1. Why have you chosen your blog name? – Well I have two blogs ‘rainbow-photography.net’ which is named after my long established photography business which is now no longer in business and ‘mysoresoul.co.uk’ which is all about me and my life, my photography and disabilities pain which sore to my very soul.

    2. When you have an hour of free-time, what do you do? – Depending on my mode, I do craft work, work on my website/blog, wander around the streets with my camera or watch a film.

    3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be? 8 years old, The life time of bullying had not started yet, I loved taking a bucket to the beach by myself (The world was safer then….or we perceive it was as we didn’t have the internet to tell us how bad the world is) and collecting shells then coming home and painting faces on them.

    4. If you could learn to do something, what would it be? – There are lots of things but I would love to scuba dive and dive the wreaks around the UK.

    5. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? – A house with 5 bedrooms so I would have the room for my 2 grandchildren when they visit, a bedroom each and have them decorated how they would like.

    6. What is the thing that makes you absolutely unique? – My DNA, Finger Prints, Memories, The love for my wife.

    7. What is your favourite blog? Yours……..But being serious I don’t have a favourite, each blog has a different affect on me, I think one is my favourite, then I read another. So I abstain 🙂

I quite enjoyed that, Thanks, my favourite questionnaire, better than the one from the Sexual Health Clinic………… I am joking.

  26. Pingback: a few questions | Phrogmom's Weblog

  27. I’m pretty new on WordPress, but I do enjoy answering questionnaires. It’s a great place to make myself acquainted with everyone else here on WP.
1.) Why is my blog name, my blog name? Well, because “AnonymousWriter” sounds completely boring, and annabellatessoro sounds exciting. It’s not only my alias, it’s also my absolute favorite person in the entire world. Yes, I have asked for her permission to use her name. It is a beautiful name. It sounds very proper, as one might put.

2.) My hour of free-time is anytime. Whether it be in school, or at home, I’m always free. Why? because I live in America, the Land of Freedom. (I’m being sarcastic, no offense to anyone) Actually, my time of freedom is when I am at home, in bed, on here, or with my nose stuck in GoT (the novel). If you don’t know what “GoT” stands for, shame on you. 😉

3.) Since I am quite young, merely a child, on the scale of life, I would say that this answer will probably be different in about 30 years or so. But, right now, I am happy with where I am. I don’t think I want to be one age forever. That would be boring, and I am most definitely NOT boring. I am quite “eccentric”. I want to live life as any other person would : to age, to learn, and to die. I assure you, my death will not be solemn. I will die happy. 🙂

4.) I would be better at mathematics. And I would blog more.

5.) I would buy all of George R. R. Martin’s books. And of Cassandra Clare’s. My, my.

6.) Well aside from my DNA, I believe my hairstyle is quite unique. I think my passion for reading is a little scary, but I am the only me I know.

7.) My favorite blog? I don’t have one. I don’t think I’ve ever had a favorite something. I am pretty neutral. Not really biased about anything.

Thank-you for posting this questionnaire. I enjoyed filling it out, because I know I don’t really advertise myself in public as much. Thank-you for giving me that chance.

  28. I LOVE stuff like this! I just found your blog through ScottisMomus, I love her blog!

    1. Why have you chosen your blog name? Reinvention is the stage I’m in. I’ve hit a wall in my career, my relationships, at a point where I’m figuring out how to make some changes. ReinventionofMama seemed a perfect fit.

    2. When you have an hour of free-time, what do you do? My favorite things to do apart from spending time with my girls is to read and write fiction and blogging. Oh how I love blogging and watching for comments.

    3. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be? Can I pick a combo? Wisdom from 35, Gutsiness from 28 and Body from 18.

    4. If you could learn to do something, what would it be? Write best selling fiction. Guess that means I need to finish a story, eh?

    5. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? Toss up between my dream house and a giant college fund CD for the girls.

    6. What is the thing that makes you absolutely unique? My ability to be fearless and fearful at the same time. It’s sort of a conundrum.

    7. What is your favourite blog. That’s a tough one. ScottishMomus, alienorajt,
Chronicles of an Anglo Swiss and ScarryMommy
