Given:

Length of platform = 500 m

Time required by train A to cross a pole = 20 seconds

Speed of train A = 36km/hr

Speed of train B = 18km/hr

Length of train B = Lenght of Train A + 100 m

Formula used:

S = D/T

(where, S = speed, D = Distance, T = Time taken)

**Calculation:**

Speed of Train A and train B in m/s

Train A = 36 × (5/18) = 10 m/s

Train B = 18 × (5/18) = 5 m/s

The length of the train A = 10 × 20 = 200 m

The length of the train B = 200 + 100 = 300 m

Time taken by train B to cross-platform = (500 + 300)/5 ⇒ 160 seconds

**∴ The time taken by train B to cross a platform of length 500 metres is 160 seconds**
