Some Bad News: An Update…

Cheers!

Cheers!

After The Bloke was given bad news last week, we were feeling a little anxious about what the future held for us, particularly with the enormous job change I’ve been going through myself recently…

However, it seems that the gods (or, as like to think, my grandfather) were looking out for us, and within the last few days everything seems to have gone in our favour. It turns out that there was a ‘misunderstanding’ and an ‘administrative error,’ which resulted in The Bloke receiving paperwork that he, apparently anyway, shouldn’t have been given and thankfully his job is safe, secure, for now at least. Yay!

Similarly, I went for a meeting today at a primary school that I have worked with previously, and have been now been employed in my second freelance contract in as many months. It’s taken a little while, but things are starting to take off, and I couldn’t be more grateful. After all of the worries, things can hopefully get back to a sense of normality, and I am hoping that this is sign of things to come. Thank you for the unbelievably supportive messages I received from everyone – it really was a comfort and much appreciated!

I haven’t been around as much as would like this week, doing supply teaching and freelance work all week, but despite this I have had a truly fantastic week on the blog, culminating in an epic #SundayBlogShare yesterday. If I’m being totally honest, I’ve been feeling really disheartened with Twitter over the last few months as it felt like a constant battle with spam accounts and bloggers who refused to follow the rules, occasionally getting quite nasty and confrontational when I asked them to stop posting links to Amazon and YouTube and inspirational quotes. Of course, there are always a large amount of wonderful people participating, but even some of those were starting to complain about the spammers, and it was incredibly frustrating because there was absolutely nothing I could do about it other than report it and wait for Twitter to respond.

However, yesterday I decided to have a duvet day, and devoted pretty much all of my time to making sure that everything was running as smoothly as I possibly could. It was insanely busy, trending for most of the day, and after nearly 5000 links had been shared I finished with a real buzz – the atmosphere was fantastic, my Twitter stats had rocketed and I could see that a whole bunch of new people had joined in.

However, that also means that, as usual, I am massively behind in my comment replies and reading, so for the next few hours I’m going to devote some time to doing just that…

  1. A duvet day – that means hanging around, keeping the duvet comfy? I hope so – sounds like much fun!
Very glad about the The Bloke’s job, and your new opportunities. I think we feel joy in contrast to great sadness and if we never felt sad, we’d never recognize the joy.
    So, enJOY!

  2. So pleased to read that. I promise I won’t post too many comments on your lovely blog, for you to respond to. Am in the process of writing a post, on my 2nd blog, and will include your lovely blog in the post. Hope it doesn’t overwhelm you with new followers lol. Blessings and your news has just made a wet and windy Novemebr evening a whole lot warmer. Blessings Joy

  3. It is like I just watched the plot from the movie Brazil play out live. I hope they give the Bloke an appreciation bonus for putting you guys through that, but even if that doesn’t happen, I am happy that other things are working out for you both.

  4. Fantastic news Suzie you must both be so relieved! Really happy to hear about your freelancing as well. Brilliant stuff 🙂

  5. Congrats Suzie! you will always be OK. You passed this test. You have learnt something new. Carry on. And trust!

  6. So glad to hear your troubles are getting fizzed out and things seem to be looking up! I love connecting with new bloggers and am interested in this SundayBlogShare? :] How can I get involved, is it all on Twitter?

  7. I’m so happy to hear that things are looking up! Twitter still scares me (but don’t tell Hugh!) so I really admire what you do. I can’t imagine managing all of that and I know there are people that insist on causing trouble – just can’t imagine why!

  8. Glad to hear that everything works out well for The Bloke. I can’t believe they could make a mistake like this! In Malaysia, this is a very delicate matter to handle as we say over here, “we don’t mess around with people’s rice bowl” . It’s people’s employment and income that we have to be sensitive about. Anyway, here’s wishing you a great week ahead 🙂
