Those of you who follow the blog regularly will know that I like visiting new places, particularly if there are food and cocktails involved, so I was delighted when I was invited to the launch of the newly refurbished Bohemian Cocktail Bar + Kitchen in Moseley, during which I would be testing their new cocktail and food menu (I know, it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!).
I’d never been to Bohemian before, although I’ve heard many good things about it from friends, so I had no idea what to expect. However, the minute I walked in I received a warm welcome from the staff, and it was clear from the beautiful decor and atmosphere (combined with an awesome reggae playlist in the background) that it was going to be a good night!
For me, the ultimate test of a cocktail bar is the quality of their raspberry mojito, and after The Bloke and I found ourselves some seats it was the first thing I ordered. It was gorgeous, and I loved the fact that the mixologist, Ben, (who was amazing) went that extra mile to create a different aroma by blow-torching some rosemary on the top. I’d never seen that done before, and it made all the difference.
Throughout the night we were treated to beautiful drinks, lovely samples of food and awesome reggae and ska inspired music from Bohemian’s resident band, The Bohemijams.
There was a constant stream of taster dishes, including southern fried chicken, piping hot fish cakes, piri piri prawns, beef bourguignon, garlic flatbread, mini hamburgers… All were beautifully cooked and well presented, and definitely gave a snapshot of the high quality and diversity of food available from their tapas menu.
I also tried several of the cocktail samples, including the Amaretto Sours, the Bloody Mary and my favourite from the night, the Passionate Lover. I loved the fact there were full sized and shot sized samples, which meant that The Bloke, who isn’t much of a drinker, could still have a small taste of them too!
Bohemian is the perfect venue for both small and large groups looking for a relaxed, friendly evening of great food and great drinks in a vibrant atmosphere!
