It was a quiet New Year. The Bloke and I, true to form, completely overdid it on the food and felt sick, so after watching Man of Steel we got bored and went to bed long before the fireworks and the chimes of Big Ben.
As a result I woke up quite early this morning, and as usual logged into the blog. It struck me just how much of a mess it is in – it needs a bit of a revamp and Christmas has meant that I haven’t been as motivated to revisit, edit and/or delete old posts, so I’ve decided that this is a big task for January.
However, I’ve left my main task as a surprise. I was originally going to do this in December, but instead I have turned it into a January introduction, as this is the point where thousands of new bloggers arrive and are looking to meet new people.
So, during every single day in January I will be promoting members of the WordPress community by reblogging a post from their blog. At the end of January all those featured will then be placed on a permanent page in my menu as ‘Top Bloggers to Follow in 2016’ for the rest of the year. And the best thing is? There’s only one blogger who knows about it – the rest have no idea – and they won’t know until their reblog appears. With that they will be given a badge to display on their blog if they so choose… Hopefully, they will gain lots of new followers, their traffic will increase and I get to share the blog love, which I always enjoy!
It isn’t much I know, but it’s a little thank you to so many who have given so much support during the last year in particular, to share blogs that I thoroughly enjoy and the opportunity for everyone to discover a whole plethora of fantastic blogs!
Happy New Year folks! Happy Blogging!

What did you think to Man of Steel? It had potential but it was too grim and histronic for my taste. I think that the drive to make everything dark negates the thrill of the concepts for me. Still, Henry Cavill was great in it.
I like the film as a film, but I’m much more of a Christopher Reeve girl at heart because that was what i grew up watching. Henry Cavill was great (and admittedly I prefer Cavill’s physique…)
Reeve personified the spirit of the character for me, that sense of ‘how can I help?’ that makes the character for me. Cavill is great, built and classically handsome but engaging with it too.
Yup, totally agree with all that haha! And Cavill is British which always helps for me!
My theory is that they cast Brits as American superheroes because the empire never ended. They like us as figures of authority 🙂 Ben Affleck is a placeholder, he knows that, we know that and he should admit it
I did a post about this a while ago – I think Americans tend to cast Brits as the bad guys because of the whole independence thing…
I did recall that post, I don’t read your stuff as often as I should. Occupational hazard of writing books is that I get a small measure of tunnel vision but your voice is really engaging and you’ve opened yourself up in ways that help people realise they are not alone. I respect that about you
That’s a really nice thing to say – thank you.
Life is too brief to not share what you feel. We’re here for a good time, not a long time and I say things as I find them with the preface that it’s not an excuse to be an ass about it. You write well and it’s drawn from within you, which is where it should be.
Totally agree about life being here for a good time… It’s taken me a long time to get to that point haha!
we seldom learn from happiness, sad as that sounds. I’ve been taught by my mistakes and it’s made me appreciate things in a whole different way. I found my purpose a few years ago, and the more that I’ve aligned my life around it, it’s fed into something sustainable and it’s taught me to be a better person than I used to be. Happier, anyway, which is always the point. Sustainable happiness and joy wherever you find it.
What would you say your purpose is?
Writing. Women’s fiction in that I write for and about women.
Thats great! I had the same realisation a year ago that writing was what I wanted to do… It suckers you in doesn’t it!
do you get that sensation sometimes, when it’s just there and it’s like taking flight but you’re not physically moving? Other times it’s like pulling teeth, but even then it’s a relief to get something down
Absolutely! It’s like an urge I get, although I then get frustrated because I sometimes cant think of anything to write!
With my books I tend to just let it flow. You can edit a bad page not a blank one. I’m very disciplined in that respect.
Absolutely love that phrase!
It was one of those phrases that came when I needed it to.
I’m stealing it haha!
No, i’m giving it to you. We can negotiate terms
Haha! Thanks!
It is the accent. It is your super power. We are helpless against it.
Depends on which accent it is. Cockney, Mancunian, yes, Liverpudlian, no.
Lol!
I’m glad someone’s admitted that, darling
That’s a great idea, I look forward to seeing the posts you reblog and discovering new bloggers. Also, I loved the Man of Steel. It took me by surprise how much I enjoyed it. It’s one of my favourite films.
Hope you have a great 2016.
Thanks Suzanne (great name by the way;) ) Have a fabulous 2016!
What a generous gesture Suzie! Happy New Year and all the best for 2016 🙂
Hi Debbie – I was just reading your post! Welcome back!
Thanks Suzie – it’s nice to be back.
You mentioned deleting old posts. Would you recommend I delete a few things I posted no one read when I first started in June and posting them now with hope they get more views?
That’s exactly what I do – I copy the content of the post across to a new one, edit it and then delete the old post. Its a great way to refresh things and introduce new followers to your older stuff
Thanks. That sounds like a great idea for some of my poems.
I need to do that myself from posts last january…
Thanks for the advice.
You’re very welcome!
That’s a great idea!!
It’s certainly helped with bloggers block over the years haha!
I love that, “bloggers block” 😜
I stole the term when I saw someone use it on Twitter – such an accurate description haha!
It’s so accurate! 😜
Haha! Thanks!
That’s simply brilliant.
Thank you!
Sounds like a great idea.
To be honest Sean and I almost gave up and went to bed before the fireworks, but then we caught Big Fat Quiz of the year and got a bit sucked in. Well I did at least, Sean fell asleep on the sofa. It was a very quiet New Years for us.
oh I forgot all about that! My favourite ones always have Russell Brand and Noel Fielding as a team… Happy new year!
They make a fantastic team! They weren’t on it unfortunately, but there will be a Big Fat Quiz of Everything on Tuesday as well.
Ooh thanks, I’ll make sure i actually watch that!
You’re welcome. It looks like it should be good.
We did make it until the New Year (our neighbour’s fireworks were very loud), but fell asleep not long after. I enjoyed Man of Steel mainly because of Henry Cavill, but then he is in the dream cast of my own books… 😉
And looking forward to an exciting month of blogging too – here’s to a lovely New Year! xx
He’s certainly very nice on the eye haha! Happy New Year!
He is, especially in The Tudors! 😉 I have him in mind for Thorion…
Ooh I haven’t got round to watching that yet but discovered it was on Netflix…
Well, you will get your fill of Cavill, that’s for sure 😉 I have the DVD box set – in fact, might get round to watching it again once I’ve finished the last season of True Blood (in between finishing off book three, of course!) 😀
Nom! How’s the book going?
It’s coming along 🙂 I wrote it some time ago, and set myself a deadline to get it to the editor the third week of January, so I’m just finalising the structure – though I’m only on chapter five, so there’s a bit to do! Still, it’s exciting 🙂
Yay!
Happy New Year Suzie!
Happy New Year Phil!
This is a great idea! I can’t wait to see the blogs and follow some new people! Happy New Year to you! 🙂
Thanks Rachel – Happy New Year to you too!
That is such a great idea.. This way we can discover more blogs! Happy new year to you!!
Thank you – happy new year to you too!
Happy New Year! And that’s a lovely idea. I’ll look forward to discovering some new blogs 🙂
Thanks Claire – have a lovely new year!
Happy New Year, Suzie! I hope to get around more often in 2016 to read your posts, or at least have better intentions about it. Have a great year and here’s to another year of blogging. *clink*
Thanks my lovely! Ditto!
Man Of Steel? That reminds me – 2016 is the year I’ll be getting my second tattoo! Happy New Tattoo 🙂
OOH what are you planning on getting?
Well there’s two fictional things I love. Superman is one and I already have that tattoo, so…
Are you expecting me to guess here? Would it be Tardis or cat related?
Cats arent fictional!
I’m tired
Me too – been up since 6
How come?
For my New Year post
Ah yeah I’ve just read it – not been to the coast for a while!
Happy New Year, Suzie! Wishing you a happy and productive year ahead!
And you! Here’s to a great 2016!
Wonderful idea. I’m looking forward to finding new blogs!
Awesome!
Wishing you the best year of your life thus far! ❤
And you my lovely!
Happy New Year and that is really kind and thoughtful of you! Looking forward to your list 🙂
Happy New Year Parul!
Reblogged this on Barrow Blogs: .
Thanks for reblogging!
That’s a fab idea Suzie! I’m sure blog you reblog will be flattered and encouraged, a great way to start the New Year! X
Thank you very much my lovely!
A really generous idea, Duzue not that I or anyone else will be surprised. Looking forward to your choices. And I’m off to review some ancient posts and see if they warrant a little tlc…. Great idea that is too.
Duzue. That’s my Star Wars name
Wow what a great typo. It’s yours!
Thanks!
I’ve never seen Brits as the bad guys. My genes are English. Those who left England so long ago had their reasons but for me it’s a bit of a sad thing.
Well being English and proud I’m sort of on the fence… We make fantastic baddies (Alan Rickman, Christopher Lee, Mark Strong etc) but brilliant heroes too!
I’ve never been to Britain, so want to go!
Get a wind machine, stand in the shower fully clothed and get a group of people to loudly complain about something nonsensical, and you’re there haha!
Happy New Year. Sounds like a great idea. Always spreading the Blog Love… 🙂
You’ll be in for a nice surprise in about 30 seconds…
Well, I just saw my own blog post in my reader, so I might know what this is about. 🙂
Haha! Enjoy!
You’re a helluva gal, Suzie!
Seriously, you really are a wonderful person with a big heart.
Aww thanks my lovely – ditto!
I am a helluva gal, aren’t I?
You certainly are! 😉
The battle scene at the end was a little too drawn out, but I know they were just trying to set up the plot for superman versus batman. Still I do enjoy watching Henry Cavill, so I wasn’t complaining too much.
Love the way you are starting out 2016. I look forward to seeing your recommendations.
Thank you Allie! And who doesn’t enjoy watching Henry Cavill haha!
Sounds like fun! I enjoy checking out reblogs because it’s new reading material! I even have found blog’s that really make me think- because I DON’T agree with their views- and learn about those other views and takes. I’d never have purposefully searched for those blogs. Those reblogs lead me to learning though 🙂
Totally agree – I’ve found so many new people through reblogs!
You’ve always been so sweet of a person, and it shows in your writing! One of the many reasons I followed, and will continue to follow you. 🙂 Happy New Year!
Thank you very much – what a lovely thing to say!
I like that you’re frequently looking for ways to revamp your blog, and to show your gratitude to your faithful followers, and this certainly is no exception. Great idea!
Thanks Dustin! I get bored easily with the design so I try and update it every so often to keep my interest…
I think a lot of bloggers are like that.:)
You say that this isn’t much but it’s huge to the people that you pick. It’s so hard to get noticed in this crowd and I’m sure they’ll be over the moon.
Thank you – that’s really kind of you!
Awwwh this is such a great idea! Love your blog! ❤
Thanks Celina!
What a cracking idea! Happy New Year Suzie!
Thanks Hayley! Happy New Year – hope you have a good one!
Reblogged this on Steve Says… and commented:
Suzie is sharing the blog love his January and she’s decided to share little, old me! Thanks Suzie and I’m excited to see all the other bloggers!
What a wonderful idea. I shall look forward to seeing your featured bloggers 🙂
Thanks Judy! There’s a lot of fantastic ones lined up!
Don’t know about Man of Steel but I whispered to my infant granddaughter that she is a Woman of Steel.
Aww bless! You could get her a Wonderwoman outfit!
What a generous thing to do, Suzie. Looking forward to reading the posts.
Thanks Corinne! Really appreciate it!
Nice idea, and a great example. Happy New Year and best wishes.
Thank you – Happy New Year to you too! Hope 2016 is a good one!
Generous and lovely gesture. Look forward to reading new blogs. (We stayed up till 12 but only because It’s a Wonderful Life is long.) 🎉 Happy 2016!
Haha! Is it bad that I haven’t seen that film? Happy New Year sarah!
That is a great idea to support fellow bloggers. Your blog is in pretty good shape BTW. Thanks for the connection.
Thanks Tony! Much appreciated!
What a fantastic idea 🙂 I watched the fireworks and in true British style promptly complained about the amount of money it cost
Keep up the great work Suzie, we’ve come a long way in the last year, just think where we can get in the next 12 months!!!
Absolutely!
Pingback: Blogging Tip from the BAR: Read a new blog | Blog-A-Rhythm
I’ve always loved the way you build community, Suzy and trust you to pick on such a great idea for bloggers in 2016. So, here I am, doing you a favour 🙂 You’re the first recommended blogger on my group blog, Blog-a-rhythm this week. I wish you lots of traffic too in the new year.
