The Color Run Birmingham 2016

The Color Run, 2016

The Color Run, 2016

It’s on my Bucket List to take part in a Color Run, and this year I’m lucky enough to be taking part in the NEC Color Run in Birmingham on 20th August 2016.

The Color Run, which is presented by Skittles, is a unique 5km run, celebrating health, happiness and having fun. The thousands of participants start the day in a white t-shirt and get covered in a whole rainbow of colours at each kilometer of the course, culminating in a huge ‘finish festival,’ complete with a mix of DJ’s and ‘Colour Throws.’

It looks like huge fun, and my friend and I will be participating just for the joy of running – I did the Birmingham Half-Marathon last year and raised hundreds of pounds for Dementia UK, but this year I am not specifically fundraising. However, there are a number of people who are taking the opportunity to raise money for worthy causes…

Joanne is part of a team from River Island who are raising money in memory of their store manager, Karl Ricketts, who sadly passed away unexpectedly in January this year. He was just 32 years old, with a beautiful wife Fay and two young daughters. I spoke to Joanne about the race:

He had worked for River Island for over fifteen years and was highly respected. It was a total shock as Karl had not been ill. He was, in fact, in work the day before he collapsed at his home. In his memory and to celebrate his amazing personality, I came up with the idea of taking part in the Color Run – it was a way all his family, friends and colleagues could get together and do something positive for him. I would like to help raise a few pennies for his girls when they are older, whether it be put towards university or their first car. Karl was a great friend who I had worked with for many years. Work is definitely not the same without him!

I love the generosity of the blogging world, and here is where you can help:

Joanne has set up a Just Giving page to raise donations. It’s for a wonderful cause, and any amount, however small, will be hugely appreciated! Here’s the link to make a donation…

As an added bonus, any blogger who makes a donation (and makes it known to me) will be entered into a prize draw to win a Blog of the Day spot here on Suzie Speaks! With 16,000 + readers, you’re almost certain to get some extra promotion!!

You still have a week to sign up to the Color Run at the NEC in Birmingham – just click the link here!

I’ll hopefully see some of you there! Now, where can I find a multi-coloured tutu???

  1. Love it! I did a color run a couple years ago. Well, really, I walked it…and rolled it. There was all this wasted color on the ground at each of the color stations, so I stopped, dropped, and rolled my way through each one. I highly recommend it. Have fun!

  2. That’s awesome that you’re doing that. I’ve always wanted to do a color run but can never find people to go with me. I must hang around the wrong kind of people.

  3. Hi Suzie ๐Ÿ™‚ Saw you over on the Blog Pitch Party and thought I’d come say hi!! Love your color run photo, sounds like fun!!!

  4. It’s Tania stopping by from the Blog Pitch Party and wishing you good luck with your race on Saturday. Kudos to you for raising funds for Dementia last year, my father has Alzheimer’s so it is a cause close to my heart.

  5. I was invited to the Colour Run here but for some reason I duidn’t attend. I think I had to go out of town that weekend. However, I would like to take part in that just for the fun of it. Had my hair dyed Powder Bule a few years ago for Cancer Research. Stayed like that for a few days until it was washed out. I must find out when the next one is and see if I can wangle an invitation to that one.

  6. Sorry, Suzie. I don’t have a rainbow coloured tutu to lend you and you’re not getting hold of my precious ballet shoes for the run either. Good on you though for going into this. We’re currently watching the 50k walking race at the Olympics. Nothing like competing for a gold medal from my couch. Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! OI!
