I always wake up with the intention of writing a post, but it seems that of late it hasn’t happened. It has been a busy, exciting, tiring and frustrating time, and I’ve had to focus daily on self-care activities and mindfulness in order to keep myself together at times.
Half-term week was one of the best I have had in a while. I attended my friend’s wedding, which was absolutely perfect, and I’m delighted for her that everything went so beautifully. It was also an extra-enjoyable time for The Bloke and I for the opportunity that it provided to have an extended break away from home for a few days. As the wedding was an almost three hour drive away, we decided that it would make more sense to stay overnight in a hotel in Yeovil (that I will refer to as ‘The Town Where the Internet Goes to Die – I had no signal whatsover for the majority of the time) to avoid potential traffic chaos on the motorway and we ended up having an impromptu date day and night. We spent the afternoon checking out the shops and churches, we climbed an enormous hill to get a beautiful view of the town and the weather was lovely. The hotel was opposite a retail park and cinema complex, so in the evening we went to watch Baywatch. It turned out to be surprisingly hilarious – quite similar to the humour used in 21 Jump Street – and I must admit that the fact that Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron spent a large percentage of it with their shirts off was more than an added bonus… We then went for an AWFUL meal at the Frankie and Benny’s restaurant next to it that was so bad my food ended up being refunded. Normally, when we stay in a hotel we are there for the purpose of tourism, so we spend as much time as we can exploring the city that we are staying in. However, as the wedding didn’t start until 1.00pm the next day we had a rare opportunity to just relax – enjoy breakfast, have a hot bath, watch some television and spend a bit of time getting ready, which was lovely.
I also had the chance to catch up with some friends that I haven’t seen in a while for cocktails and an italian meal – it’s always nice to be able to hear what they have been getting up to. One has started her own wedding preparations for her ceremony next year, and I think she’s already far more organised than I am! The wedding planning continues – I received my beautiful invitations from Confetti Designs that I am delighted with – and now it seems like things are beginning to fall into place. There’s still a bajillion things to do, but I’m enjoying the process!
I’ve been doing some invigilating and as an added bonus I have been potentially offered an exciting supply opportunity at a brilliant school. However, what I didn’t expect was the problems I would encounter when I sat down to write a CV. It’s been over five years since I did one, and in order to try and find my previous one I went through my old hard drive that contains resources from my previous years as a teacher. What I thought would be a simple process of updating my information turned into a full-blown panic attack when I saw all of my old documents. Horrible memories of feeling stressed and anxious returned, and I felt sick to the point where I physically couldn’t do anything but cry. I felt ridiculous – I’m a reasonably intelligent 35 year old woman with a lot to be thankful for – but at least now I have found a trigger which I know to avoid in the future. I still haven’t written the CV, but I will, and I’ll delete everything from that hard drive too. I haven’t needed it in the last two years and I doubt I will need it in the future…
However, I’m looking forward to this weekend in particular. The Bloke and I will be going to London to attend the third Annual Blogger Bash, during which I will be doing a talk on monetising your blog, which I’m really excited about. The Bloke is going into the city with his camera, and admittedly I’m a little nervous because of the terror attack last week, but we cannot let the actions of the few dictate how we live our lives. I’ll be meeting people that I have been talking to online for years, and I have a guest coming back to Birmingham for a few days with me… Exciting!
And today, I did my bit and voted. I hope everyone else who is able to has done the same. It’s time for a change.
What about you guys? What have you been up to over the last week?
