There’s an awesome quote that appeared on Pinterest a little while ago by Colette Werden:
‘It’s ok if you fall down and lose your spark. Just make sure that when you get back up, you rise as the whole damn fire…’
This. This is what I needed to remember last week, and that’s exactly what I did. I’ve got into the habits of doing smaller jobs every day, but this week I was feeling particularly fired so up decided to throw myself at much larger tasks and goals. As a result, my mind feels clearer, my space is tidier, my blog stats are up, I’ve lost 5lbs and I have a whole list of positive things that will be happening in the future (no, I’m not pregnant before everyone starts freaking out).
And I was reminded that when you put positive things out into the universe, the universe responds.
I’ve spent some time sorting out some flat lay ideas, and it gave me some inspiration for a future project. It’s one of May favourite things to do at the minute… perhaps I’m getting my inspiration from seeing the awesome pictures that The Bloke does?
I was treated to a post-wedding present, which was a series of massages and afternoon tea at a lovely spa just outside of Stratford-Upon-Avon. I haven’t had one in ages, and it was so nice to spend some time with my lovely friend, who enjoyed her massage so much that she fell asleep on the massage table! I must have been incredibly tense, my back was really sore for a few days afterwards, but it made me feel so much better!
I saw a clip of a comedy show by comedian Jo Koy on Facebook and then discovered that the full show was on Netflix, so The Bloke and I decided to watch it. It was so funny that I tweeted Jo to tell him how much I enjoyed it. Not only did he reply, follow and retweet me, but he sent me a Direct Message to say thank you for the Twitter promo and asked for my address so he could send me some merchandise. There was nothing untoward or inappropriate in any way, just a kind act from a seemingly nice dude.
The Bloke surprised me the other day with a kick-ass present – an SLR camera. He has three – an entry level Canon, a semi-pro Canon, and a brand new Nikon that he recently won in a photography competition. The other day, he handed me a camera bag and in it was his old Canon camera, complete with all the accessories that he had obviously spent ages secretly organising and putting together. With it, he gave me a tripod, a digital photographers guide to Lightroom and told me that I could use it for my blog photos. It was such a thoughtful present, particularly when he could have made some money by selling it, and I’m really excited for the weather to get better so I can go out and start getting some stock photographs together – I’ve never owned one before.
This weekend The Bloke went up north to see his family, so the cat and I decided to have a little staycation at home. We got some lovely food (well, I did, the cat had to sit there and watch me eat it) made sure that all of our jobs were done early in the day (his jobs primarily consisted of sleeping and getting under my feet to be fair), put the heating on and then settled down where we spent the rest of the day binge watching the new season of Grace and Frankie on Netflix. I had a lovely hot bath, did some breathing exercises and by the time The Bloke got back I was feeling a little more refreshed.
I’ve also been running the weekly #BlogBashChat Twitter chat for the Annual Bloggers Bash, and it really boosted me last night. They’re such a fun group of people! And I’m ridiculously excited about the Annual Bloggers Bash on May 19th in London too… Have you got your ticket yet?
And now, I’m motivated and ready to face this week with a smile on my face.
What about you guys? What are you looking forward to this week?

This is a big week for my family. My German husband turns 49….49?? That can’t be possible!!?? So, we will celebrate with family mid weekish. Then, on Friday we send my oldest daughter back across the big pond to America. I am excited for both, but I have a feeling both will be rather emotional days 🙂
Oh wow! Happy birthday to your husband! The Bloke is 49 – he’s 13 years older than me – and I’m secretly planning his 50th. Where is your daughter going?
I really want to plan something great for next year too! So much pressure!! Sierra is going back to Michigan. She misses her friends a great deal, and the language barrier is just too much for her to handle right now.
Oh wow… I’ve always wanted to go there!
There are some beautiful spots to see in Michigan. I would highly recommend the Traverse City Area. They have wonderful wineries, distilleries, amazing views of the water(Lake Michigan and the bays) some really great places to eat, hiking trails for all skills. It has some touristy spots, but it is easy to go off the beaten path, so to speak. When I lived in Michigan, I would go up there at least once a year.
I’ve been to NYC, D.C and Philadelphia but never traveled anywhere else in the US… I’d really like to do a tour at some point
Wow, you have energized me! Right now, sitting drinking my one and only half cup of coffee… caffeine and I are not great friends, but then I am heading outside to the now normal land (no snow left) and continue to attack the garden that surround our pool. I am leveling it down to the ground in hopes of being able to gain control of it this spring and summer. Your words have inspired me to get moving and also to treat myself to fun things, thank you! Looking forward to seeing your photos, what a great blog post! Cathi
Ooh how did you get on with it Cathi?
I got a bit more done on it all… debating about going back out and doing more of it… So appreciate you and your blog! Thanks for being you!
Thanks lovely! Ditto!
I’m a big believer in positive co.ing back to you Suzie !
Absolutely! Long may it continue!
Indeed!
Sounds like you found your mojo again! What a blissful week, massages, pressies and quality time with the cat – sounds wonderful 😊
Haha! Can’t beat it! He’s a bit special but he’s definitely one of my favourite things to cuddle up with…
I love Grace & Frankie! Your massage sounded lush. I love massages so much. I can’t believe how nice that comedian was- brilliant! I’m looking forward to going out with a friend on Friday. We’ve got a lot of catching up/drinking to do x
Oooh where are you going?
What a fantastic present! I can’t wait to see your photos.
Thank you! I’m waiting for the sun to actually come out so I can do something!
What a positive week you’ve had, Suzie! I am looking forward to a trip down south, and before you imagine palm trees let me explain. Patrick (my bloke) works for a company based in Portland – about 3 hours south of where we live. I rearranged my schedule so I could go with him on one of his trips to the mothership and we are staying two nights – one on the company dime and one on ours. We have a reservation in a lovely hotel and I’ll have time to goof off, rest, and make dinner reservations while he’s working. Can you say ‘mini-vacation?’
That sounds amazing! Hope you have a lovely time!
What lovely things have been happening for you, Suzie. I do feel that we go some way to making our own luck and I think your positivity and hard work are paying off! Enjoy your rewards! 🙂
Thanks lovely! It’s definitely something that I’ve seen happen over and over again – the more good you do, the more you get back…
What a great quote!! I can totally relate to why you loved it so much. Taking a step back every now and then certainly helps us get our s**t together doesn’t it. 2018 has started with a bang for me and I’m fairly certain I’m going to meet myself coming back very soon. I’ve realised I’ve taken too much on (again!) but need to see through the commitments I’ve made. I know this will cause me stress and anxiety but it’s helped me shape a future (calmer) plan. To be able to do this I’m taking a leaf out of your book and chucking myself in a hot bath with my Supernatural box set (Jensen and Jared – say no more!) xxx
Oh my gosh now there’s a sandwich I wouldn’t mind being in the middle of! I saw your FB of your vision board workshops – did it go well?
Hell yeah! The workshop was fabulous thank you x
I’m so glad! Everyone looked like they had fun!
Loving the positive news! Sounds like a great start to the year for you!
Thanks Andy!
Oh my gosh, the timing of this post could not have been better. I’ve been trying to fall back and regroup and the quote by Colette Werden was perfect. Good luck with your camera
Thank you! I’m really looking forward to trying it out!
It’s so good to read your post Suzie and you radiate happiness at the moment. I love that quote and will apply it to myself as well:) Just keep smiling my friend!
Thanks lovely!
