Lunch for One…

I took the day off today and decided to actually get out of the house and go into the city. The initial plan was to go to the cinema first but I left a little too late, so instead decided to spend the money that I had budgeted for the film on things that I don’t need, but what makes me happy.

The weather was bright and sunny, which was fabulous considering we’ve just had what feels like an eternity of dark and gloom. I walked across most of Birmingham – I bought some highlighters from Cass Stationery, my favourite bath stuff from Lush, some of The Bloke’s favourite sweets from the awesome sweet shop in the Great Western Arcade, something from Forbidden Planet comic shop for The Bloke and then o took myself off for lunch.

There’s some really interesting people in Birmingham, and I’ve had so many lovely chats today. I had a conversation with a guy working at Cass who turned out to be a really talented graffiti artist, a lady working at the sweet shop was telling me about the fact that her and her husband of 30 years wrote the exact same message in each other’s Valentine’s cards, and the guy at Forbidden Planet was telling me about the new Star Wars Lego stuff.

I had lunch at Bar Estillo, a tapas place in the Mailbox. I’ve never been out for lunch at a restaurant by myself before, and it was really nice, particularly when I ordered myself a raspberry mojito and sat back to people watch.

Note to Self: Don’t go for lunch if you’re really hungry. I ordered far too much and ended up leaving about a third of it – definitely an eyes bigger than belly situation. That’s the problem when I’m hangry (hungry and angry about it) – I grew up in a family of five with big portion sizes so I always go for far more than I ever need…

After completely indulging and feeling mildly sick I went home, changed into my comfy sweats and watched some trashy TV while lying under a duvet with the cat while eating the macarons I had bought from Marks & Spencer.

I think I’d be good at being a lady wot lunches…

I’ll tell The Bloke.

  1. Lego Star Wars – forbidden planet – sounds like a top bloke – well done on the other half part 😉

  2. Think we could go back for dinner and cocktails again? I’ve never known time to fly by so quickly! Was definitely because of the excellent company! 😊 glad you had a fun and productive day – especially if it ends in pjs, duvet, trashy tv with snacks! 👍🏻

  3. Sounds like a great way to spend a day! How’s the photography coming along with the new camera?

  4. I’ll hold my hands up. I’ve gone and ordered food when on an empty stomach, therefore ordering too much thinking I’ll eat it all. Then your eat so fast, you fill up quick and can’t finish it all!!

  5. sounds like a wonderful day, had thought of doing something similar, but not nearly as cool as Birmingham, since Spartanburg, SC is not cool like that, but, instead decided to do nothing today except sit in front of the fireplace and scroll the internet. Enjoy your evening! Cathi

  6. It sounds like you had a pretty interesting day, Suzie, and it is always a treat to indulge in some stationery. I could certainly be a lady wot lunches but I never know when to stop!!

  7. Hi — Not related to your post but I thought you might be interested in this -. FiloFabulouss – it is an online shop I discovered for stickers and things – and it is in the UK.

  8. A lady what lunches would never order too much or she would be a lady that lurches😲 I don’t think I have just lunched decadently… I have ate alone in a lunch break but not dressed up swanned around chatting to people I have never met and partaken of refreshment alone … just because I can. This is something I will try. Thank you.

  9. Hangry Love it! I turn into a different person when I’m hangry. Been like that since I was little. I enjoyed reading this post.
