One. Million. Views.

Holy crap.

Just under five years ago (April 2013), I came home from work after a particularly bad day, created a WordPress account and hastily wrote a very short introductory post entitled ‘Stuff.’

I have a lot of stuff. When I first moved down to Birmingham to start my degree everything that I owned could be fit into the back of a Ford Escort. Now, almost twelve years later, I own everything I have except the shell of the house that I live in. This blog is an attempt to sort out the stuff that I have surrounded myself with for years… And I’m not just referring to the physical objects that are in the house…

And that’s exactly what this blog helped me to do… sort my stuff out. It has been the biggest influence in almost every aspect of life, allowing me to change my career path, discover new goals and talents, experience places and things that I could have only dreamed of in my previous existence, understand myself better, calm my demons, re-establish estranged relationships and has introduced me to some of the most inspiring, creative and incredible people from all over the world both online and in person that I would never have have the privilege to get to know otherwise. Instead of filling my house with half-finished journals, it has been my online diary and record of the unbelievable highs and struggles of my life: getting engaged and married to The Bloke, welcoming The Squidge (my niece) into the world, watching as the important people in my life get married and have children, quitting my teaching job, travel, food, reviews, hosting workshops, winning the Best Overall Blog at the Annual Bloggers Bash in London…

I only told one friend when I first started writing – I showed her one of my posts during a meal at a pizza restaurant after I’d gained about 10 followers while my heart was beating out of my chest, and after she gave me a positive reaction and boosted my confidence we had a conversation about what I could achieve with it.

“You could get a million views!” I remember her saying, and I laughed at the prospect.

And today, that’s exactly what happened – this little piece of the internet had it’s MILLIONTH VIEW…

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read, share, tweet, pin, advise, support… I couldn’t have done it without you!

Here’s to the next million!

  1. Congratulations Suzanne, that’s amazing! Thank you for not only carving out a wonderful corner of the internet for your readers, but also for being so supportive towards other bloggers like myself! 😘

  2. Whoop whoop πŸŽ‰ That’s an incredible achievement, Suzie! It doesn’t come as a surprise though as your blog is a fabulous resource for such a wide variety of people. Keep on blogging my dear friend and it won’t be long until you hit two million! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ»

  3. Woohoo!!! Congrats! Awesome news and well done you. I’ve always loved your blog, you were my very first that I ever read and now we’re friends. As you say, roll on the next million – you continue to be my bloggy inspiration xxxx 😊

  4. Just shows what can happen in five years Susie, mighty Oaks from small acorns grow and all that. I felt the nerves at showing your friend the first post too. I think we forget the initial no followers and first post tumbleweed. Finding the right niche is really important too and with a million views methinks you might just have figured that out lol

  5. Absolutely wonderful! A huge congratulations to you. Blogging is definitely life changing. Here’s to the next million indeed. πŸ™‚

  7. Congratulations – couldn’t happen to a more deserving person!

There is a reason for it – your posts stand out as being well thought out, well presented and damn well useful. As much as I’m able i’ve Used a good few as a β€˜how to’ manual, and your blog would be my first port of call if I want to figure something out.

So once again, we’ll done πŸ‘

  8. Congratulations and thank you for being so supportive to other bloggers and creating a community BUYB that I love and feel safe to express myself in. I agree blogging has helped push me in other areas and I can’t imagine not doing it now. Thank you.

  9. Congratulations!! So very proud of you and proud to know you. You deserve a million views, and a couple of million more! You life has impacted mine and I talk about your blog often to people. Well done you! Cathi

  10. And you’ve brought others along with you for the journey–I think that’s the very best part. People think of writing as solitary, at best a spectator sport. But that’s not right. Blogging and writing is all about the conversation. As I read your post, I wondered what new talents and skills you discovered along the way.

Congratulations to you. I’m happy to be a part of the next million.

  11. Congrats Suzie, that is awesome! Glad to have been some of those views!!! πŸ˜‰
Hope this weekend treats you kindly, can’t wait for tomorrow’s #SundayBlogShare – now off to share. πŸ™‚

  12. CONGRATULATIONS, Suzie! Woo hoo! This is an incredible achievement and you deserve every single view! Here’s to the next million, my dear! I’m so happy for you!! Cher xo

  13. Congratulations on your success, that’s a lot to achieve in five years. You’ll have to repost some of your very early posts, I need all the motivation I can get to clear 30 years worth of accumulated junk from my house. I set up my blog 11 years ago with WordPress but more or less abandoned it after the first post and didn’t come back to it for a good few years. I signed up, couldn’t make head nor tail of it and moved on to easier blogging platforms. WordPress has come a very long way since those early days. Here’s to your next five years.

  14. Congratulations, Susie, and much deserved! I wonder where I’ll be with my blog in a little over four years. I have to say, I’m loving the creative freedom it gives me. And, I owe much of my joy to the BUYB group you run. I’ve met so many supportive people that help to make blogging fun. So thank you, and yes, here’s to the next 1,000,000 views – CHEERS!

  15. Wooooooooah! Suzie, that is amaaaazing!

Congratulations on your million views! I think I am responsible for at least a hundred of them. ❀
