In an effort to inject some positivity into my daily mindset and the online world I have created a Daily Gratitude Challenge and I am inviting everyone to participate. If you have missed my introductory post that explains the challenge and maps out the daily post schedule, visit here.
Day 5 of the Daily Gratitude Challenge is all about the people that you are most grateful for. I’m lucky in that I have a number of people in my life that are trustworthy and supportive, but this year has also highlighted those who are putting their own lives on the line every day and doing lots of incredible things to help others. Whether it is family or close friends, key workers or charities, this is an opportunity to be mindful and appreciative of those who make life just that little bit better.
People I Am Grateful For
The Bloke. The Han to my Leia, the Angel to my Buffy, my partner in crime and my general source of daily amusement. Those who don’t know him particularly well assume he’s a rather quiet and shy character, but he isn’t. A large percentage of my favourite memories include him, from our adventures exploring new cities together and spontaneous date nights in completely random places, to crying hysterically outside theatres, accosting unsuspecting musical theatre celebrities, and spending our Friday nights on the couch and watching a film with the cat. He makes me laugh every day.
My family. It’s a very small and complicated unit that has experienced far more downs that ups over recent years, but now we have reached an equilibrium where we all just get on with it and are there if the others need it.
My friends. The number of friends I have now compared to a decade ago is much smaller, and I have known most of them seemingly forever. To the girlies who are my confidants and daily accountability buddies, those who I don’t see for months at a time but will make me roar with laughter whenever we meet up over cocktails, the friend who decorated my house with phallic-shaped balloons when we got engaged and whose bunny hates the very sight of me whenever I look after him, the Canadian whose Coronation Street obsession meant that I had to spend a day on the filming set, the artistic fitness instructor who always checks in, my blogging friends who I keep in touch with regularly and who I meet up with in person, the one who brought me cupcakes when my cat died and who is the life and soul of any party… I am grateful for you and your friendship.
Those in the local community who do their best to help others – the volunteers at our local food bank and allotment (which they use the produce to make meals for the homeless), those who go out into the park and woods to pick up the litter and mess left behind every day, those who organise concerts and festivals to bring the community together…
Those who are working in key roles – the NHS staff (my mum being one of them) and care workers, the teachers, drivers, retail staff, cleaners… This year has shown more than ever just how important these are.
Those who dedicate their lives to rescue. Whenever I’m feeling low, I often visit my favourite Instagram accounts, including C. Legit and New York Bully Crew, Wolfgang2242, The Dodo, and Takis Shelter.

I love the Dodo and subscribe to a whole slew of Bully pages (bully breeds are the best). I’ve also started watching John Krasinski’s 8 week SNG youtube channel again. We need more good news in our lives.
Oh my gosh yes to all of these. Instagram is also quite addictive for the bully breed posts too!
