Daily Gratitude Challenge Day 12: Greatest Gifts

In an effort to inject some positivity into my daily mindset and the online world I have created a Daily Gratitude Challenge and I am inviting everyone to participate. If you have missed my introductory post that explains the challenge and maps out the daily post schedule, visit here.

Daily Gratitude Challenge The Greatest Gifts

Day 12 focuses on gifts. Whether it is a family member or friend, a thoughtful action, moment or material item, this is an opportunity to look at the greatest gifts you’ve ever received.

Some of the Gifts I Am Grateful For

Because I am doing an entire challenge in which I will look at family and friends in more detail, I have decided to focus just on material items.

My grandmother’s eternity ring. This wasn’t a deliberate gift as such, more of a case of I wore it and mum has never minded me keeping it. It’s one of the only things that we have of our Grandma, who passed away when I was 3 1/2 and well before my youngest sister was born. The brass and nickel ring is one of my most treasured possessions and is only worn on very special occasions – I’ll pass it on to my niece when she is old enough.

My engagement ring. It’s perfect.

A ticket to meet Dolph Lundgren from my mum – a 30 year obsession realised.

Concert and show tickets. Tickets to the 20th Anniversary performance of RENT in London (one of the best weekends ever), tickets to see Hugh Jackman in concert, Kinky Boots on Broadway, tickets to see Adele at Wembley – I’ve been very spoilt.

A mug. The day after we went to see RENT I met Anthony Rapp (one of the original Broadway RENT stars) and he very graciously allowed me to take a picture with him. My friend V had that picture put onto a mug. I actually cried.

My friend M gives the most thoughtful gifts. I’m obsessed with PostSecret, and she bought me a signed copy of one of the books. She also presented me with a frame that contained 4 heart-shaped maps – one was of where I was born, one was where we live, one was where we got engaged and another was where we went on our honeymoon.

Phallic balloons. When The Bloke and I got engaged, my friend V who was looking after the cats decorated our living room with congratulations banners and phallic-shaped balloons and put a whole plethora or chocolates and snacky treats out with a card.

When we got married my friend G made us a cupcake tower instead of a traditional wedding cake, and my friend M made Baklava for the dessert table.

Technology. The Bloke bought me a digital camera after seeing how obsessed I was with photography. I was gutted when my original iPod nano was as stolen at the school I worked at many years ago (and they couldn’t have given less of a damn about it), and The Bloke surprised me with a new one with Don’t Stop Believing engraved on it – my favourite song.
