In an effort to inject some positivity into my daily mindset and the online world I have created a Daily Gratitude Challenge and I am inviting everyone to participate. If you have missed my introductory post that explains the challenge and maps out the daily post schedule, visit here.
Today’s Daily Gratitude Challenge focuses on luxury. The concept of luxury is subjective to each individual depending on their personal circumstances, so I love the fact that this particular area of the challenge is open to multiple levels of interpretation.
Luxuries I am Grateful for
The Bloke and I always joke that we would be completely rubbish at being rich if we ever won a serious amount of money on the lottery – we don’t want for anything and neither of us are big spenders, particularly when it comes to material items and the concept of spending thousands of pounds on a single item of clothing or handbag gives me minor heart palpitations. However, I’ve never been in the situation where spending thousands of pounds in one go is an option, so I couldn’t guarantee that running into the Alexander McQueen store on Old Bond Street while yelling GIVE ME ALL THE THINGS after a large lottery win wouldn’t be a possibility.
For me, luxury comes in the form of lifestyle and privilege rather than material possessions. Yes, a spa day with massages and mud baths are amazing, but many of the biggest luxuries in life are completely free (in theory, at least) and yet those same luxuries aren’t afforded equally: the freedom to live how I see fit without fear, judgement or having to live up to the expectations of anyone else, freedom to express my opinions, to vote for what I believe in, freedom to follow my goals and ambitions and the freedom to change my mind. I’m grateful that I have options and choices and an education. I have the ability to sleep safely in a warm bed and friendships that offer guidance and lift me up when things are tough and I’m grateful for the peace and quiet that the evening brings.
What about you guys? What luxuries are you most grateful for?
