Daily Gratitude Challenge Day 22: Lessons Learned

In an effort to inject some positivity into my daily mindset and the online world I have created a Daily Gratitude Challenge and I am inviting everyone to participate. If you have missed my introductory post that explains the challenge and maps out the daily post schedule, visit here.

Daily Gratitude Challenge What life lessons are you grateful for

Day 22 of the Daily Gratitude Challenge is all about lessons learned. While it may not be obvious at the time, lessons learned (particularly when they are learned the hard way) are instrumental in our psychological and emotional growth. This is an opportunity to look at the lessons you are grateful for, and how their impact has made you a better person.

Lessons I Am Grateful For

Daily Gratitude Challenge what life lessons are you are grateful for

There is no such thing as the perfect journey, failure and setbacks are inevitable… and that’s okay. Life has a nasty habit of getting in the way of any goal and can change in an instant, even if you have meticulously planned and prepared in advance. What matters is how you change and adapt to unforeseen issues.

If you put your own expectations and moral code onto others you will always end up being disappointed.

Money will rarely solve problems that matter – there are plenty of people with lots of money that are miserable – but being in debt will only make problems worse. Be careful with your finances – live below your means, save wisely and remove the value placed on material possessions.

Validation from others means very little, especially if you aren’t able to validate yourself, and you will never be able to please everyone.

You are not responsible for the happiness of anyone but yourself.

Happiness is more likely to be found in the pursuit than the destination.

One of the most profound things that my mother has ever said to me is ‘there is the real truth, and the truth that we want to believe.’ Listening to your gut and accepting what the real truth of a situation is – even if this means dealing with something that will be painful – will save lots of time and further heartache in the long run.

Perfection is impossible and *gasp* you will sometimes be wrong.

Taking the high road in a situation is always the best response. Regardless of whether you are in the right, pushing back and becoming involved in arguments will only result in further distress to yourself. Leave them to it and walk away.
