In an effort to inject some positivity into my daily mindset and the online world I have created a Daily Gratitude Challenge and I am inviting everyone to participate. If you have missed my introductory post that explains the challenge and maps out the daily post schedule, visit here.
Day 27 of the Daily Gratitude Challenge is all about your happy place. What place are you grateful for?
My Happy Places
I am at my absolute happiest on the couch on a Friday night. I put my feet up and lie against an enormous pillow while we are watching a film, and always spend some time breathing and trying to relax after a busy week. However, there are a few places that always inspire positivity:
London. On the train from Birmingham to London there is an area just before you reach Euston that is quintessentially London. Regardless of the weather, the sight of this section of the track is always exciting – it’s the start of what is always been an exciting trip in one of my favourite places in the world.
The woods. I’m lucky in that I live near an absolutely gorgeous woods that looks beautiful in every season. My favourite time to go there is really early in the morning before anyone else has got up – being able to wander around in such a large space without being disturbed by other people is a lovely experience.
The bath. The Bloke is still, even after all of these years, dumbfounded by the sheer amount of time I can spend in the bath during an evening. A two hour (minimum) soak with bubbles, a face mask and my favourite YouTube make-up tutorials is a brilliant way to unwind at the end of a busy day.
Witley Court. I have an annual English Heritage pass and we like to go and visit various places of interest on our days off. I only discovered Witley Court for the first time last year, and I couldn’t believe how stunning it is. Situated in Great Witley in Worcestershire, Witley Court is a ruined mansion designed in an Italianate style. Built in the seventeenth century on the site of a former manor house, it was enormously expanded in the early nineteenth century, sold to the Earls of Dudley and this was followed by a second massive reconstruction in the mid nineteenth century. It became known as one of the most impressive houses in the country, and in the 1890’s fashionable society attended the lavish parties held at Witley Court, including the Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VII. The ruins of the mansion can be explored, along with the impressive fountains within the grounds.
