In an effort to inject some positivity into my daily mindset and the online world I have created a Daily Gratitude Challenge and I am inviting everyone to participate. If you have missed my introductory post that explains the challenge and maps out the daily post schedule, visit here.
Day 28 of the Daily Gratitude Challenge is about something new. What is something you didn’t have a year ago that you are grateful for?
Something I Didn’t Have a Year Ago
This year has taught me that life is capable of changing literally overnight. One minute The Bloke and I were standing in a theatre auditorium waiting to go and see a show, the next we were on our way home after the show had been cancelled and the whole country had been told that we were going into lockdown. Little did we know that we would be living in a period of history that would be discussed in the future, and it has changed my thinking about everything. So many things that I took for granted were taken away, and The Bloke and I and our families and friends have been extraordinarily lucky to have managed to continue to live in safety.
Consequently, I have a new found appreciation and gratitude for everything (hence the reason why I started this challenge in the first place). It has highlighted the daily sacrifices of key workers in jobs that are often overlooked, how much you miss the people you love (even if you’re a hermit like me) when you aren’t allowed to see them, and how quickly everything can collapse in a short period of time. I’m grateful for both The Bloke and I being able to retain our employment at a time where thousands have lost their jobs, that we aren’t at risk of losing our home, we are able to fill our cupboards when they are empty and we have been able to support some of our neighbours and local businesses. I’m grateful for the potential of being able to plan for exciting things for the future, and I’m going to remember this gratitude and pay it forward.
What about you guys? What is something you have gained over the last year that you are grateful for?

I have a better relationship with my husband than I did a year ago. After 35 years together, and 20 years as parents, we’re remembering the healing property of laughter and the importance of date night. We also have WiFi for the first time ever (yes, we were stuck in the 90s). Most importantly, thanks to regular Zoom brunches and happy hours, I have spent more time with friends and family members than I have in a while. Love your blog!
