Blog of the Day: Shank You Very Much

blog

Meet Heather!

Heather is the creator of Shank You Very Much. I like her About page (and the adorable picture of her dog!).

I am a person filled with sarcasm and it makes its appearance at the most inopportune times. I’ve been likened to a Seinfeld character, which is unsurprising since that show literally shaped my childhood. Every Thursday through the late eighties and early nineties, you knew where to find me. Blog of the Day: The Phil Factor!

AuthorMeet Phil!

A regular on Suzie Speaks and one of my oldest (not in age, rather in terms of the length of time I’ve known him) bloggy friends, The Phil Factor is one of my favourite blogs. With hundreds of hilarious and thought-provoking posts, Phil shares his ideas and musings on current events, his daily life, Top Tens of his favourite things and, of course, his campaign to become president and/or sexiest man alive. And judging from his most recent clown pic, the Sexiest Man Alive award must be just moments away!

He’s rather more modest on his About Page: Continue reading

Blog of the Day: Kim Knight

Meet Kim!

Kim, from KimKnightAuthor.com, is a new discovery of Suzie Speaks. I started writing a description for today’s Blog of the Day, but then I realised that she does a far better description of herself and her blog in her about page:

Kim is 33, from London in the UK. She’s a qualified teacher and mother to a beautiful toddler. As a reader she’s head over heels in love with romance, historical fiction, crime fiction, African- American, suspense and thriller genre books. After submitting three chapters of a romance /suspense novel she was writing to a USA based publisher in 2016, she scored her first publishing contact. Kim’s first novel was released September 2016, A Stranger in France. Her second novella will be released at Christmas 2016. As a writer Kim likes to create stories within the romantic -suspense and general thriller genres. Kim also writes beauty and book related articles published in Love Life, Live magazine.

When she’s not reading or writing novels of her own, her other passions include practising her French, fashion and spending time at her sewing machine dress making, watching make –up and beauty tutorials on YouTube, letter writing and being a mum. Continue reading

How Blogging Has Changed My Life

image

By 2014, I don’t feel arrogant by stating that I had achieved every goal that I had set myself. I had a well-paid job, a home, a relationship, good friends and three cats that had been with me for years. From an outsider’s perspective, things seemed set.

However, I was struggling both physically and mentally. I couldn’t cope with my workload, my family relationships were strained (and in some cases, non-existent), The Bloke had lost both his father and best friend to cancer within five months of each other, my beloved cat died, we had moved house twice in six months because we were duped by a charlatan landlady and I had been hospitalised for nearly a week after ignoring a kidney infection. I was comfort eating to try and make myself feel better, and I was bloated, lethargic and had gained even more weight than I had over the previous few years. I didn’t want to go anywhere, do anything or see anyone. I existed from day to day, praying for the weekends and the holidays.

I had started the blog the year before. Things had been tough, and as I had taken to writing angry words in notebook after notebook, only to then store them in a cupboard afterwards, The Bloke suggested that I start writing online. Admittedly, I knew nothing about blogging, but within the week of creating my very first account I was hooked, churning out post after post of nonsensical rubbish that had been floating around my mind for a long time (most of which I have now deleted). I gained new followers, and started to build a community. I was extremely paranoid about people within my real life discovering what I was writing, so I kept information about myself to a minimum, but I started to feel safe in the anonymity that the computer screen provided, and enjoyed the feedback and interaction that I received from people taking the time to leave comments on my posts. Blog of the Day: Meet The Chicago Files!

imageMeet Cher, an Canadian ex-pat who lives with her husband and blogs about her adventures in Chicago.

Her blog is a wide and varied mixture of her daily experiences and encounters with others, her favourite places and photographs of interesting points and hidden gems within the city. As someone who has never visited Chicago, but has always wanted to, Cher has given me a whole list of ideas of places that I would wish to visit should the opportunity ever arise. From The Lego Building, to the ‘Castle’ on Clybourn Avenue, Cher gives her readers an insight into a truly fascinating city!

It’s an easy and enjoyable read, already being recognised across a number of ex-pat blogs and networking sites, and rightly so. Continue reading

Only See Your Good Side is almost an online journal and is created by Becky Balfourth. Her ‘About’ page explains how she is using the blog in a similar way to me, as a form of therapy. Continue reading

Blog Of the Day: Meet The Phil Factor!

imageMeet Phil, author and creator of The Phil Factor.

When I started Suzie81 Speaks nearly two years ago, Phil was one of the first blogs that I followed. Why? Becase both Phil (and his blog) is utterly fantastic.

His ‘About’ page made me smile:

Hi there, thanks for reading my blog. I’m The Grand Poobah of Leisure and the author of the humorous, murder-mystery novels White Picket Prisons and The Sneaker Tree as well as the humor book Fifty Shades of Phil. I’m a father of three, husband to one, and life-long smart ass to many. I’ve been well trained by my two dogs and a cat and am a loyal servant to them all. I’m an excellent ping-pong player and I make the best grilled cheese sandwiches in the world, bar none. I have a Master’s degree in Psychology and spent many years working in the field of mental health before realizing that stringing words together might be a little bit more fun. My first fiction novel, White Picket Prisons, is an ode to the life-long friends that I grew up with and still keep in touch with to this day.

However, (sorry Phil), it doesn’t quite do him justice. Phil’s posts are hilarious, intelligently written and eclectic and during my blogging adventures I have stolen more ideas from ideas from his blog than I have anywhere else. I love the fact that his it doesn’t have a niche – you never know what he is going to discuss next – and he has created a welcoming place where it is possible to talk about anything and everything without judgement.

If you do nothing else today, follow this blog – I promise that it will be time well spent.

You can also find Phil on Twitter: @ThePhilFactor

Phil’s novels, including ‘The Sneaker Tree’ is also available on Amazon and at Barnes and Noble.

Blog Of The Day: Meet Teachez Well!

imageMeet Katherine!

She’s the creator of Teachez Well Blog, a site dedicated to teaching children with learning difficulties and special needs, and with over forty years of experience, she’s more than qualified to provide assistance to anyone who has children that have certain needs!

She has a wonderful sense lf humour, and her About page (and indeed every email she has ever sent me) makes me smile when she discusses her husband, the blog widower…

I am a semi-retired special educator with 40+ years experience. Yes, that makes me pretty old and I was probably teaching long before many of you were born. I always wanted to be a teacher, probably because I had some amazing and loving teachers myself. I have taught kids with a wide variety of disabilities, primarily in the public school system at the elementary level. My specialties are reading and social skills. Have you heard of Malcolm Gladwell’s book “Outliers: The Story of Success?” Gladwell summarizes research that suggests it takes at least 10,000 hours to develop expertise in some field. That makes me appreciate all those long hours st school when I start to feel old and creaky…

My husband of 42 years and best friend for 45 (yes, I had to use a calculator) now declares himself a Blogging Widower. He just came out here, where I am hunched over my computer, gave me a kiss, and announced his new status. He’s been a Teacher Widower for 41 years, so this is not an entirely new role for him. You would love him if you met him. All my students who have met him always ask when he’s coming back. He has made many runs to school when I frantically ask him to bring my lunch, that file folder, my purse, the materials I need RIGHT NOW to teach, my phone, and my planner (for all the good that has done me). He’s also made trips to school when I have taken his house and office keys to work; fortunately, he keeps his car keys in a separate place.

Are you a homeschooler for a child with barriers to learning or have children with specific learning needs? Then this is the blog for you. Katherine is positive, extremely supportive and friendly, and has provided many wonderful comments on Suzie81 Speaks… Go and check her blog out and say hello – I’m sure she would be delighted to meet you!
