Daily Gratitude Challenge Day 10: Traditions and Events

In an effort to inject some positivity into my daily mindset and the online world I have created a Daily Gratitude Challenge and I am inviting everyone to participate. If you have missed my introductory post that explains the challenge and maps out the daily post schedule, visit here.

Daily Gratitude Challenge Traditions and Events

Day 10 of the Daily Gratitude Challenge is all about the traditions and events that you are grateful for. Whether these have been established based on faith, nationality or annual routines that have simply been formed over time, this is an opportunity to focus on them in more detail. Continue reading

Cocktails at The Colmore Club!

Cocktails at the Colmore club

I received an invitation last week via The Stilettos Network, asking if I would like to attend a cocktail-making masterclass at the exclusive Colmore Club in Birmingham.

Ooh, yes please!

The venue, which opened in September 2015, is situated in the business district of the city and is owned by Dave Roberts and Jonathan Wilcox. With a beautifully designed social room, board room, quiet study room, kitchen and bar, it offers the opportunity for social gatherings, business meetings, workshops and events for it’s £500-a-year members. I’ve been lucky enough to visit the club before, and it’s absolutely stunning, with the atmosphere, the welcome and the service being exceptional.

The bar is stocked with an impressive collection of spirits, and for those with particularly expensive tastes, a £24,000 bottle of Krug champagne. After previously sampling several of their beautiful cocktails I was particularly keen to try out others that were on offer. Continue reading

An Evening with The Body Shop

image

I love the Body Shop – they were the first set of products that I ever used in my teens and over the years I have consistently purchased my favourites as part of of my daily skin-care routine.

Last Saturday I attended the grand re-opening of The Body Shop on New Street in Birmingham, along with a lovely bunch of bloggers from The Bloggers Parlour.

The store on New Street has undergone a revamp this year, and it looked stunning, with a nice layout, clean lines and beautiful displays. There has been some new introductions too, with an interactive section that allows customers to select products based on their skin type, and a new range of products that compliment their most popular fragrances. The Body Shop brand is known for their natural, cruelty-free products and I was particularly excited to get advice on their cruelty-free make-up range and brushes.

I immediately made a beeline for the make-up consultant, Jess, who spent some time going through the best type of products I could use for my skin, which is the ultimate combination of oily and dry. She then gave me some advice on making the best of my eyebrows (never my best feature), and showed me the range of make-up brushes that I could use for different parts of my face. If I could recommend anything in particular, it would be these brushes, particularly the fluffy blending brushes, and I was so impressed that I bought one immediately. I noticed that there are sets of brushes available too, at the extremely reasonable price of £20 and £30. Continue reading

Beauty Blogger Event at Organique

On Thursday night I organised and attended another event at Organique in Birmingham. Those of you who follow the blog regularly will know just how much I love the store and it’s products – it’s only been open since August 2015 and is the only one in the UK, and in my opinion it’s one of the many hidden gems in the city. The products have completely changed the quality and tone of my skin, and I regularly recommend them to all of my family and friends. I was delighted to find that they have recently been nominated for Glamour awards – it’s great to see such a wonderful set of products start to get recognition!

Organique beauty products

Yup, I think it’s turning into an obsession!

Despite going to a number of events over the last year, it’s still an incredibly daunting experience. I attempted to distract myself from my nerves by spending extra time on my hair and make-up (which at the minute I thoroughly enjoy doing anyway), to the point where I was almost late. Want to Detox this January? Go Organique!

A little while ago I organised and attended a blogging event at Organique, my favourite store for natural beauty products in Birmingham. I discovered it in Autumn of 2015, and in my initial visit the manager, Justyna, gave me a consultation and recommended products based on my skin type. I’ve been using them regularly (to be fair, I’m a little obsessed with some of them), and I’ve noticed the quality and tone of my skin has improved immensely in the last few months.

The store has only been open for about six months, and is the only one in the UK, so the event was a great opportunity to introduce local beauty bloggers to the products on offer. I blog about most things, but beauty isn’t one of them (despite my recent obsession with make-up and vlogging tutorials), I was interested to see how experienced beauty bloggers did reviews.

After several weeks of emails, tweets, Facebook invitations, several last minute cancelations and lists, I found myself stood in a group of awesome young women who were all keen to meet and greet and try out the products. Justyna had done some lovely snacks (of which most of them my friend and I ate) and I loved the fact that everybody was chatting and getting to know each other.

What I love about Organique the most is the sheer variety and amount of things on offer, from beautiful salts and bath bombs, to face masks, cleansers, toners, shea butters… It’s a bath-a-holics dream. However, Justyna wanted to particularly focus on the types of masks available and gave demonstrations on how to mix and apply the products effectively. We looked at and tried different types of clay masks, which were fantastic. My favourite in particular was the algae mask, which turned into a rather rubbery consistency after a few minutes and could be simply peeled off after a while, and it left my skin feeling incredible! I also loved the Gold Corundum Peeling Cream (that contains real gold) leaving a shimmer on the skin.

So, as resolutions are being made to change our eating habits and we are more conscious of the things we put into our bodies, why not examine the products we are putting on our skin too?

After the success of the first event, it is likely that a second one will be held later in January – if you are in the West Midlands and want to participate, drop me an email at suzie81blog@hotmail.co.uk or tweet me @suzie81blog and I’ll send you the details.
