Guest Post: Edwina’s Episodes!

What a thrill it is for me to be here at the lovely Suzie’s blog. I am beyond delighted that I was one of the lucky winners of her birthday competition, and that I get to write a guest post!

I was trying to think of something that would illustrate my blog but also fit in with Suzie’s, and then I had an idea, why not write a poem about Suzie herself? As some of you many know, I am fond of writing a poem or ten! I thought about a limerick, something like…

There was a young lady named Suzie

Who spent the day in a Jacuzzi

Whilst there at the spa

She took off her bra

Now everyone thinks she’s a floozy!

Hmmm, that is fun but a bit short so I have come up with this instead… Continue reading

Blog Of The Day: Two On A Rant

imageMeet Joelle LeGendre!

She’s the co-creator of Two On A Rant, author extraordinaire and all round supportive and friendly blogging enthusiast.

Her ‘About’ page makes me smile:

If there are annoying people, places or things…if there is minutia that needs to be beaten to death, Joelle is out there–in more ways than one. If you’re looking for relaxing reading, something to soothe your frazzled nerve endings, or something to fall asleep with, you’re in the wrong blog.

I can relate – as someone who gets annoyed on occasions by the little things, I find that blogging about them is a useful form of therapy!

However, this page doesn’t quite do her justice. Her layout is simple, easy to use and looks attractive, and I love the mixture of poetry and animal photography (I’m always a sucker for anything to do with happy and well looked after animals).

Joelle is also an established author, with her book ‘Atto Run’ being available on Amazon and Kindle. I love the description – A SciFi Cinderella comedy-romance that pokes fun at the craziness of life on Earth, & possibly elsewhere – which sounds exactly the sort of thing that I would enjoy reading! You can find her book (and her five star reviews) simply by clicking on the image – I’m sure it will be worth your time!

Love Later Life

image

There is no cure for ageing

Because ageing isn’t an illness, but a way of life.

And some are better at it than others

The secret?

Think yourself younger than you really are:

On a crowded bus or tube, offer your seat to a young man

Design a website, invent an app

Take up Zumba, forget to nap

For no-one can predict what’s lying in store

With a future more challenging than ever before.

So enjoy the adventure

Time flies, they say, but it’s us that fly

Time sits on its hands, as we rush by.

And life has a way of gathering speed

So seize the day, we’re a special breed

In the blink of an eye

The wave of a hand

The beat of a heart

The brush of a tear

You are old.

But valued still.

Welcome to the fold.

Written by English poet Roger McGough

This poem was created for the latest Age UK tv advert – I think it’s beautiful. In the cinema version of the advert, it is read by 92 year old movie legend Christopher Lee.

For The Fallen: Lest We Forget

Every year I watch the service at the Cenotaph with pride as we observe moments of silence to remember the fallen. While the official Armistice Day is the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, today is Remembrance Sunday here in the UK and so I would like to share a tribute to the millions of people who have given (and who continue to give) their lives in war. I will never forget your sacrifice.

Ode of Remembrance, taken from ‘For The Fallen’ by Laurence Binyon, 1914

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Weekly Word Challenge: Happy

Image

I have been wanting to create a community challenge for Suzie81 Speaks for some time now – I have gained a following of wonderfully talented and creative people  decided that the best way to do this would be through a weekly word challenge – I will post a new word every week on Sunday at 7.00pm – with today being slightly different as it is the first challenge.

Happiness. There are a million posts published every day that focus on the idea of being happy – what makes us happy, how to achieve it, why we need to be happy in our lives…

For the first ever weekly word challenge the theme for this week is ‘happy.’ How you respond to the word is entirely up to you – here are some suggestions.

1. Create a list of things that make you happy.

2. Recall the happiest events of your life to date.

3. Create a poem that reflects on the word.

4. Share photographs of things that have made you happy recently.

5. Write a ‘how to’ guide on how to be happy.

6. Create a short story.

Once you have finished your post, include the link back to this page so others can see it or post it in the comments section. If you wish to place this badge on your blog or on the page, feel free! The challenge will remain open all week and anybody can participate whether they follow Suzie81 Speaks or not! Each Saturday I will reblog some of my favourites… It will be a brilliant opportunity for you to gain more traffic and followers!

Enjoy! Share with your friends! I’m looking forward to seeing what you create!

If I Had My Life To Live Over Again

I’ve loved this poem for years – my mother sent it to me when I was at University.

If I Had My Life to Live Over Again
If I had my life to live over again,
I’d dare to make more mistakes next time.
I’d relax.
I’d limber up.
I’d be sillier than I’ve been this trip.
I would take fewer things seriously.
I would take more chances,
I would eat more ice cream and less beans.
I would, perhaps, have more actual troubles but fewer imaginary ones.
You see, I’m one of those people who was sensible and sane, hour after hour, day after day.
