No Day But Today

No Day But TodayA little while ago I was invited to see a production of RENT at The Old Rep in Birmingham. I’ve always been a fan of the music, having performed a number of the songs as part of a choir when I was at college, but had never seen the musical itself.

Since then, it has become a minor obsession. We watched (and enjoyed) the musical live on the Tuesday, then rented the film on the Wednesday, watched it again on the Thursday and then I went out and bought the DVD on the Saturday, and we promptly watched it again. I’ve owned the soundtrack with the original Broadway cast for years, so we have listened to it in the car, and there hasn’t been a morning over the last few weeks where I haven’t woken up with part of at least one of the songs going around my head in a loop. Despite the fact that I can’t relate personally to many of the themes in the show, there’s just that something about it that both The Bloke and I have connected with. It has become our thing, even though it finished on Broadway years ago. Continue reading

11 Quotes by Inspirational Women

image

A few years ago, in the very beginnings of the blog, I created a listicle giving 46 reasons why women are amazing. Looking back, the post is rather silly and superficial – there’s talk of shoes, hair, make-up and the ease of urination in comparison to our male counterparts to name but a few. However, I keep the post up because it pulls in traffic from search engines on a daily basis with questions like ‘Why are women amazing?’ and ‘How amazing are women?’… There seems to be an endless stream of people who want to know what the key ingredients are that contribute to a woman’s ‘womanliness.’

As I age I am more acutely aware of the journey we have travelled as women, and how far we still have to go, but I’m lucky in that I am surrounded by strong, independent, successful women who prove that anything is possible. So, without getting into a debate or using it as an opportunity to belittle the male population (as I find it immensely irritating when Women’s Rights are used as a chance to insult men under the guise of feminism) I wanted to take the opportunity to share some inspirational quotes for International Women’s Day. 25 Thoughts for the Day

imageDuring my many travels around the internet I always stumble across things that make me laugh, cry and think. 18. The things that you don’t learn are the most likely things to be in the exam.
