This is a current snapshot of my life. I have always enjoyed writing and have hundreds of small notebooks cluttering up the house, so in April 2013 I felt that the obvious solution was to start a blog.
Since then, Suzie Speaks has grown beyond all expectations. I love the people and the community and I’m not being melodramatic when I say it has been the best form of therapy I have ever had. It has changed my life in ways I never could have imagined and I was able to leave my job and work as a blogger and Social Media Manager full-time.
My posts reflect my mood and experiences and cover topics ranging from books, film, thoughts, daily life, teaching, friendship, relationships, things I find amusing, my adventures around my beloved city of Birmingham and my travel experiences. I blog about my life, my loves, my family and friends.
I’m a thirty – seven year old former teacher from England. I live with The Bloke – my fiance (and a very patient man) who has been my partner-in-crime for a very long time… and our elderly cat. I am in the process of changing my life and becoming self-employed and I am gradually figuring out what I should be doing with my time.

thanks for stopping by today, so that I could find you. We have teaching in common–I’m a retired middle school (7th and 8th grades) teacher.

I think it’s wonderful that you are keeping a sort of public journal. I personally find writing very therapeutic, and it’s so great to get comments and encouragement from others. I will follow you! 🙂 Thanks for liking my latest post, I hope it resonates with you in some way. Cheers.
Thank you very much!!! I really appreciate it!
I was a middle school and elementary teacher, then I became a special needs preschool teacher. I did not make the government goal of gettting my Master’s in what I was teaching. So now I am a hard working middle aged crazy woman at a car parts distribution center (i.e. factory!) Thanks for checking out my stories. I enjoyed what I read today and am following you now!
Hi there! Thank you for the comments on some of my posts, I’m really pleased that you enjoyed them.
In the UK we don’t need a masters to teach (thank god). I’ll certainly be stopping by again!!!
All the best!

Hi Thank you for liking my post, I admire your profession! I used to teach English in Jakarta, I would love to do it again.
You’re welcome! I’ve always wanted to teach in a different country…
Suzie, first off thank you so much for stopping by my blog and “liking” my current post about Space Mountain. I hope you find reasons to visit again in the future. I was 30 yrs old when I quit being a kid, and started to grow up. You have made significant inroads to growing up, you have a job you enjoy and a passion for ways to express yourself. Good luck and much success for you in the future. Take care, Bill
What a lovely comment! Thank you very much – all the best to you too!
Thank you for the ‘like’ on my post at Minkyweasel World Suzie. Yours looks like being a great blog too from what I’ve read so far. Don’t apologise for the content, some of the best blogs are centred around one’s personal life and experiences, that is why they are interesting. I shall continue dropping in to see what’s new in your life.

Thank you! You too…
Thank you for visiting my blog! I love what you write. Keep it up. 🙂
Thank you very much!
hey!
What do you teach ?
Music… Although I’ve taught Drama for a number of years too. What do you do?
cool =) I teach math, it’s my first year teaching, so its been a bit hectic =)
Wow – a proper subject then!!! The first year is always a tough one. I’ve been teaching for about seven years now, and I’ve found that while the pressure never decreases, it’s easier to handle over time. Do you enjoy it?
hahaha music and drama are proper subjects! Sometimes it can be hard to convince the parents of such, and even the kids…but they are just as important! And a ton of fun =)
haha I love it =) I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was in the 3rd grade =)
Although, teaching in Sweden is much easier compared to teaching anywhere else, no extra curriculars, and the time they give you to plan/mark etc. is actually almost enough…so of course I end up staying after school for 2-3 hours, but I rarely have to take work home =)
That sounds great!
Thanks for visiting zehirablog and liking my latest post. I will have a look through yours – its always nice to connect with another teacher.
Hi there! Thanks for visiting – the majority of my posts are not about teaching, but it is something I plan to build up.
Have a nice day!
Suzie, thank you for the like on my blog. I am really enjoying yours too. I just read the Fat Disney Princess piece and was fascinated by what you wrote and the comments. It is only the princess films that strike a nerve with me because there have been plenty without the “perfect woman” in it, although those are mostly with animals. However they do perpetuate that the good people are pretty/handsome and the bad people are ugly/fat such as Jafar, Cruella, and Hades. In any event, I’m going to follow you because you give me things to think about. I hope you enjoy my journey as well. See you around…
Thanks! I really appreciate your comments!
Suzie, how intriguing that you should visit my blog! I’m currently doing research to create the back story for a character in my next novel who was a teacher in England in the 1970s.
Anything I can help with?
Yes, I do have some questions. Thanks so much for the offer.
Another strange coincidence is that my character’s name is Susan, called Susie by her family. She’s Guyanese-born (like me) who migrated to England in 1967 when she was fifteen and settled in Birmingham with her Guyanese-born mother and English stepfather.
From what I’ve gleaned from my research, there was a City of Birmingham College of Education during the period (1971-1974) Susan studied for her Certificate of Education.
Can you confirm this for me? Also, was the teachers training course for a period of two years or three years?
I’m a stickler for getting my historical facts correct.
That’s weird, I live in Birmingham…
I’m not sure about the training years because I was born in 1981 and qualified in 2005, but I’m sure if you google it then I’m sure there will be lots of information….
Thank you for following 🙂
Thanks, Suzie.
“That’s weird, I live in Birmingham…”
Unbelievable, Suzie… This is no mere coincidence.
I’ve signed up to follow your blog and look forward to reading your posts.
Thank you! That’s the strangest coincidence ever…
The City of Birmingham College was actually City of Birmingham Polytechnic as far as I could find out. To be honest, I don’t think people would know the difference…
