Twelve Years of Blogging: A Neglected Corner of My Heart

April marked twelve years since I first hit the publish button on the blog.

Twelve whole years. It feels surreal even typing that. What started as a quiet little corner of the internet to share thoughts, observations, and the occasional rant has become something far more personal than I ever imagined. Yet, looking at the tumbleweeds rolling through the archives recently, you wouldn’t think it meant much at all.

Life, as it does, got busier. Priorities shifted, attention spans shrank (mine included), and somewhere along the way, writing for the blog slipped quietly down the list. Posts became sporadic, then rare, and now? Well, let’s just say it’s been a while. It’s been a while for the last few years really. But despite the silence, I’ve never stopped thinking about this space. It still holds so much – memories, milestones, musings from different chapters of life.

I’ve said right from the beginning that there were never any expectations when it came to the impact of the blog, but I credit it as being solely responsible for instigating a completely different trajectory in the direction of my life. While the updates have slowed to a crawl, the impact it has had hasn’t diminished in the slightest. It opened doors and opportunities, has given me new friendships that have become some of my most valued, and helped me to gain confidence that I never would have found otherwise.

So, yes, this blog is a bit dusty. Yes, it’s changed. But so have I, and I think that’s the beauty of it. We’ve grown together, even if a bit more quietly over recent years. And maybe that’s what makes this twelve-year milestone so special. It’s not just about the posts I’ve written, but the life I’ve lived while writing them.

Here’s to this neglected, beloved blog, and to whatever comes next. Thank you for reading, whether you’ve been here since 2013 or just stumbled across this today. It means more than you know.

  1. I’ve been blogging since 2009. I can’t believe how many great people I’ve met since then, and it became a lifeline after I retired.

    • 2009 – oh wow! You’re one of the people that I’ve had the privilege of meeting in person thanks so blogging. It has certainly changed since I started, but absolutely worth it.
