Both men and women are unique in their capabilities and what they offer to society, but on International Women’s Day I took the opportunity to research some of my favourite quotes by empowered and successful women and ask lots of my blogger counterparts for reasons why they felt women were amazing.
1. Our strength at continually striving to be seen and heard for who we REALLY are, when all around us are those who want to put us into boxes… (Fallen Angel Fitness)
2. A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous – Coco Chanel
3. We’re at our best when we opt out of the game [of competition] and find the strength and kindness to support and encourage one another to be who we are meant to be. (Claire Wong Writing)
4. It’s not vanity to feel you have a right to be beautiful. Women are taught to feel we’re not good enough, that we must live up to someone else’s standards. But my aim is to cherish myself as I am – Elle Macpherson
5. Figure out who you are separate from your family, and the man or woman you’re in a relationship with. Find who you are in this world and what you need to feel good alone. I think that’s the most important thing in life. Find a sense of self because with that, you can do anything else – Angelina Jolie
6. A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform. (Sanchali07wanderer)

9. Women are great listeners, and do so without feeling the need to fix something.
10. We possess the sixth sense of female intuition, which is often right.
11. What we do is one achievement after another, no matter how small. Surviving all that is thrown at us. Being strong when we don’t know how we do it. Forming networks of support with each other… (Jot to Jot)
12. Women are remarkable because of our ability to be resourceful, our adaptibility and resilience – we bend but don’t break. (Phaytea’s Pulse)
13. Our ability to be effective leaders.
14. The fact that we can embrace our seeming imperfections and turn them into a strength
15. They are the creators and nurturers of all. They are balls of emotion feeling happiness and sadness, love and hate, energy and exhaustion all at once, yet still cope with what the world throws at them. They are the support network, many a time, singlehandedly, for their family, often with only another woman friend to turn to for understanding and support. (But I Smile Anyway)
16. Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others – Amelia Earhart
17. We can organise a household, a family, ourselves and still manage to work full time.
18. Women are just normal human beings whose strength is derived from their history (Oriana’s Notes)
19. When she knows that she is amazing but is graceful and classy about it. There is something very powerful about knowing your own strengths and choosing when to use them effectively…
20. Ordinary women with compassionate hearts might not always get the highest paid jobs or the respect that they deserve but don’t forget the wonderful daily jobs that they do. (Kyros Magica)
21. Why do people say “grow some balls”? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding – Betty White
22. The ability to look amazing in whatever we wear, be it a cocktail dress or sweats…
23. While we may not always be physically stronger than our male counterparts… pregnancy and childbirth.
24. Women are amazing because every day we have the resilience to prove that we are equal to men – be it through intelligence, strength, power or pay bracket. Women change the world, deliver life and inspire each other. (The Wandering Darlings)
25. A fulfilling life does not require the dependence on anyone else but herself.
26. I am an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them. I was surrounded by extraordinary women in my life who taught me about quiet strength and dignity – Michelle Obama

45. W-oman’s worth O-ften underestimated M-ostly unappreciated A-lthough they N-ever give up caring
46. I like being a woman because I think the answers now are so much more varied and exquisite then they would have been even twenty years ago because we have come so far as a gender. I love the way I know my body so well, I love that I can talk freely about any subject without embarrassment or bravado bullsh*t that guys often do, that I can be a chameleon, that I can be proud of my gender and that everywhere I turn there are women all over the world making and breaking the rules. (The Slipped Ink Blog)

Fantastic list. Love Betty White ‘s quote.
And we can get to say that men are amazing without our own sex looking at us like we’re crazy. Bravo! Or, should that be Brava!?x
Thanks! I wanted it to be a list of things that we can celebrate rather than beating on the male race. I’m working on the male list now…
Well, can I give a shout-out for Hugh Jackman. Because ‘Dang! Hot, hot, hot.’ Just sayin’.x
One step ahead of you 😉
Good-o! I would hate for amazingness to miss him out.x
Any other suggestions?
Only 46 reasons….how about sensible, not usually power hungry, not as usually as vain as men (though some are), the ones who take responsibility 99percent of the time when the guy takes off….and so on.
I could have listed hundreds in truth. I didn’t want it to be a list of why we’re better, or have a go at men because there are lots of women that take off too and I know tons of brilliant fathers.
Thanks so much for your comment!
Yes, hundreds….men have some qualities, I know (I am one), but it was about women, and I like the way you did this. In fact, I loved that photo of the woman standing on that building. What a lovely symbolic shot. No need to have a go at men, I agree.
Thanks!!
🙂
Love this love this love this! Best list. Best quotes. Best. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much! Really appreciate it!
It’s a list of things I’ve said and thought a million times haha. Well, I definitely appreciate being a woman even more now!
Hilarious!
Thanks!

Love this!! Going to re-post (full credit to you of course 😉 )if you don’t mind! 🙂

4. We have a penis.
5. We know when to shut up.

I love this post and have shared it on FB. Thanks for liking my last post. I enjoyed visiting your blog, too.
Thanks very much! I really appreciate it!
I like your content – I might have broken it up into 3 smaller “Countdown” posts with 15 reasons each. Great job!
Thank you very much! Really appreciate it!
Number 26. You CANNOT beat Number 26.
Absolutely!!!
Sorry to burst your bubble but most countries don’t have vital registration systems. They are too poor and don’t even have any interest. So it is really hard or impossible to get any sort of figures. The figures in developed countries have not been truly replicated independently. The other problem is that statistical figures are based on probability theory and this make them non-falsifiable which goes against the scientific method. Probability theory is never falsifiable because if a man were to live to 75 and a women to 70 it would be dismissed because it goes against the alleged notion that women outlive men. Yet if a women were to live to 75 and the man to 70 it would be considered corroborative so regardless it is thus non-falsifiable and it has to be confirmed outside government or UN but no researcher has the resources to count millions of death certificates. Real sciences are physics and chemistry. These are both testable in a lab. We can prove and disprove a hypothesis.

I love the quotes used in the post. Makes me feel very proud to be a woman.
Betty White quote is so funny! Audrey Hepburn is a classic, Oprah is very respectable and there are so many other great references! Thank you for this post and yes I am so happy I am a woman! 🙂
Ok- I love women!
Haha! Yes, we are pretty great!
I’d like to say I loved these, but most of theme didn’t really “click” with me. Others spoke words of wisdom!
Maybe it’s because I have a different upbringing, but so many just reinforced that to be an amazing woman I have to fit into society’s standards. Eg, hiding imperfections with makeup. Why can’t my imperfection just be a part of what makes me amazing? Another for example is ‘the ability to turn heads’ – at face value I take this to mean that I’m attractive. Who defines what attractiveness is? Why do I have to fit within the “ideal body shape” in order to be amazing? What if I look “ugly”? This means I am not amazing? Looking deeper, I can see perhaps you mean I can turn heads because of… my intelligence, my creativity, my etc. This is understandable, lovely in fact.
Sorry I can be very philosophical sometimes. I just felt like I wanted all the ladies out there who thought this list was amazing, to realise there’s more to us that makes us amazing that doesn’t involve beauty/looks/societal standards.
I give out a special “you’re amazing” to all the ladies who stood up against all odds in some way, to all the ladies who are disabled in some way, and to all the ladies who are deprived of a sense in some way (blind, deaf, etc) and yet have the courage to live up to their dreams. I think women like them are truly amazing.
Hi there – thanks so much for your comment. I value your opinion, but just one thing – I didn’t say you had to be a certain size, body shape, conform or wear make up to turn heads. I have beautiful friends in all shapes and sizes and they’re all very much capable of turning heads. I also don’t believe in ‘ugly’.
That’s so lovely 🙂 thanks for replying. You’re right you didn’t mention it specifically – it was yet again a connotative understanding of your true intended meaning. Thank you 🙂
You’re very welcome – have a good day!
Great Saying It is Great being a Woman lessed Day lynn
Thanks!
Awesome list of why women are great! Also, love Betty White’s piece of advice or “quote” so funny and true! Never will say that again, “Grow some balls!” Eww… no!
Haha! After I posted it I wished I had included more women in there – I keep thinking of others to add so I might update it!
Oh! I just love this – And thank you for liking my BLOG: From my Pen and Power. Julia needed to know your list!

Hahaha loved this…so true
Thank you!!
great list! great responses to the list! Well done you!
Thank you very much!
i love it….
Thank you!
I love these. I love being a woman and I get sick of all the stuff about how we are the weaker sex/are at a disadvantage. We are freaking sexy beasts and this may sound sexist but the female mind has such an incredible capacity (if it’s not totally distracted by things like shoe sales).
Yes we are sexy beasts!!! That made me laugh!!
Love this & love that Betty White quote! hahaha 🙂
Thank you! Me too!
This is a lovely start to my morning! Now I can go into work and be like, ” I am woman. Hear me ROAR!” haha
Haha! I’m really pleased, although today I’m more of a ‘miaow’ than a roar…
This list is great! Every thing mentioned is a great reminder to me of why I love being a woman. Why, if I had been born a man, I would have had a sex change operation. Thanks for reminding me! I feel invincible!
Thank you! So pleased you enjoyed it!
wow, love this especially the quote from Betty White.., thanks for sharing.
I love being a woman because of all the emotions a woman can feel (whether good or bad)…. and how she still can cope with all of lifes short comings. And to be honest most of the time… you would never know how down she is because a woman rarely ever lets u see her without a smile =)
I agree with some of the posters above, the list seems a bit shallow, especially compared to men’s. There is more to women. But hey, it’s your view and an interesting angle. Have you read Caitlin Moran’s How To Be A Woman? Great take on what its like to be a woman, and hilarious too

Every time I begin with “women are amazing because…” I find that there is no way to craft a comprehensive end to this sentence.
I guess I’ll just have to be content knowing that Women are Amazing!
Haha! Thanks Gabe – yes we are!
Oh I loved this piece and thank you for posting to Blog Share Learn where I found it. We are amazing and reading these 46 reasons really inspired me yet again. I”ve pinned and shared on my Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond Facebook page. Have a lovely day.
